@JohnnyShoulder yeah hadn’t really considered the install size… that alone probably qualifies me for a job working on Call of Duty I reckon 🤣

@JohnnyShoulder @NedStarksGhost Good points you make about the story and the game size, I'd not factored in that it would take an increasing amount of disc space to make all the extra content available.

I was just reading the comments under the Witch Queen expansion article and hadn't actually appreciated that this would be paid content that would be being removed. So it's all stuff that people have parted with good money for and will potentially never see again. Damn that's a raw deal.

Even though I like to play as many different games as I can I will still every now and then go back to something I've played before just to remember how good it was. I think I'd feel pretty befuddled if I booted up a game I owned, started a new game only to find that the story and characters were different than I remember, plus all that extra stuff I'd paid for was no longer there.

Guess we'd better get used to that experience though if Sony are looking at producing more games like this 🤷‍♂️

There’s too many people in this convo to tag now but I guess part of it would be that having so much content can end up spreading the remaining player base thinly across everything that’s there.

Not a problem if you’re in an established clan but a bit rubbish if you’re playing solo and looking for people to play with and are sat in an empty lobby as no one plays that anymore noob.

I used to love GTA online when I played with friends. I haven’t touched it in years but even then trying to find other people for some game modes would feel a bit futile.

I guess that’s part of the problem with these “games as a service” after a year or two; are you still trying to entice new players or keep a hold of the long term players?

I don’t play many of those sorts of games, particularly so long after launch, but guess it’s hard to do both things easily/well.

I'm beginning to see the full picture with this and why it's even more lucrative than it first seems. Because a new season / DLC is an "event" it has a certain amount of time that it's relevant and there's a high number of players playing it. Knowing that will likely push more people to pay full price for the DLC when it first releases due to them wanting to get the best experience possible and also being able to have time to level up stats etc.

This works out better than single player games as they don't expire in that way, you could buy HFW now or in a years time and still get pretty much the same experience. The story will still be the same, as will the action, all you'll really risk is having it spoiled or missing out on the hype.

@velio84 Ditto to that. Perhaps I’ve not given live service an honest trial to win me over, but if that’s the way the industry is going, I’m going to be less and less invested in gaming over time.

However, my gut tells me that Sony and Nintendo will stay the course on still producing single player content for many years to come.

And like I say, I have it as a goal to try something online and ‘live-servicey’ or F2P this year, just so I can see what the fuss is about. Seeing peoples’ reports about how convoluted Destiny 2 is has made me scratch that one off the list. FFXIV is probably the one that speaks to me the most and has the most consistent praise. ESO is another. It’s just that all of these live service types are so intimidating to try to start. They really aren’t welcoming to newcomers.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

NedStarksGhost

@Th3solution you're correct that these live service games are not newcomer friendly. The longer you leave it the worse it gets, as well. I've been watching a 4 hour Destiny 2 Beginner's guide, which tells you all you need to know really... I also read there is a discord that will pair you up with a buddy to start with to get you into the game. I love that it exists, but ideally it shouldn't need that level of help!

@colonelkilgore If only I had some kind of motivation to start something. I only have time in the evenings and I have been choosing more work or a movie or TV show over games recently.

@Apfelschteiner well, here’s to hoping you manage to get yourself a PS5 real soon buddy.

Started PS+ Maneater on the PS5 actually impressed with how good it is, it's a lot better than I thought it would be. Definitely picking up the DLC for it.

@banacheck I quite enjoyed it but it gets pretty repetitive so I’m not sure I’d have managed the DLC as well.

I gave DIRT 5 a go last night and after the first three events in career mode, I don't think it's for me.

I can't quite tell if it's trying to be a bit more than an arcadey racer but it didn't feel right to me. The first three tracks were a bit boring and I found it quite difficult to tell where corners actually were. Plus, I found it was just too IN YOUR FACE the whole time so I don't think I'll be going back to it.

Thrillho

render

@Thrillho Yeah like @velio84 mentioned it doesn't get better. It just gets repetitive and you actually realise there's not that many tracks. They often use the same tracks over with some extra bits tacked on or in reverse but you eventually feel you've seen everything. The story thing just gets annoying too and actually ends up cheesier than it begins if that's even possible. I just found myself wanting to go back to playing Wreckfest as even the campaign stuff in that was quite fun most of the time.

Yeah, I’ve moved onto playing Hades and am having a great time with it!

Voltan

I think I should be able to finish Uncharted 4 remaster tonight.
I hardly got any trophies along the way and I'm not going to bother though - it's way too much.

Voltan

JohnnyShoulder

@Voltan Everytime someone says something like this, a part of @colonelkilgore brain wastes away.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Voltan

@JohnnyShoulder Undestandable and it wasn't my intention to damage the colonel's brain. My apologies
Seriously though - the trophy list is a little ridiculous by today's standards - it's not even about being a completionist (as in: get all the treasure, notes, journal entries), which would be fine by me. Some of the tasks sound downright impossible to be honest. I get that the challenge might be appealing to some but I got other stuff to play

Voltan

graymamba

@Voltan fair, I don’t have any Uncharted plats in fairness… I’ve only played the first three, and I played them prior to being… erm… ‘fundamentalised’ 😅. I’m planning on circling back to the original trilogy to attempt their plats but I’m not in any rush tbh.
