@velio84 - You know, it’s funny; I used to think having to grind for blood vials after dying to a Boss in Bloodborne was an annoying waste of time. “Why can’t I just challenge the boss again?!” I would ask.
Now having played this, that sounds awfully quick 😄
Fair enough, I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing then (thanks @Voltan for the info).
So, I was planning on starting this with on a triumphant note, but unfortunately for me I kept playing, and now that feeling has deflated somewhat. On the plus side, I defeated Nemesis, and on the first try as well! Honestly didn’t know what the heck was going on, and once again only barely scraped through (well, not really, as I had a revive ready, but my health was low, so it felt like it) but I made it, and finished Act 1.
Then I started going through Biome 4, and after finding an electro driver, proceeded to breeze through the entire area with it, boss included (I get what you guys were saying about it not being good on bosses, as there were times where it didn’t seem to want to work, but thankfully it wasn’t that often) and now I’m in Biome 5, once again breezing through (though at the end I switched to a carbine, so it might get hard again now) and wonderingly where the difficulty went.
I’m not sure how much of this is the electro driver being op, or me being so in tune with the game’s rhythm that I can just deal with whatever the game throws at me, but it’s been weird going through these last two biomes and not having to deal with a further increase in difficulty, as it had been pretty constant throughout the first three. I guess I’ll find out when I continue.
On a side note, I was surprised at how different Biome 5 was, especially when 4 was more of the same. But I guess in hindsight it isn’t that surprising that a level like this was included, as they’re pretty common in general
@FullMetalWesker this was not my experience for areas, though I definitely feel boss difficulty dropped after act 1. Nothing felt as tough as ixion but I died a whole bunch in B4. Just roll with it and hope it continues on to B6.
Anyone else ever just randomly think about starting Returnal again?
It really has that Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro thing for me where I've constantly got in the back of my mind this feeling that I would love to just play one of them again but my brain overrules it.
@johncalmc Yep almost did over Christmas after watching a few videos of other people playing. I knew that if I started playing again though I'd likely not be able to stop until I finished it and I've got so much else to play.
@MightyDemon82 There's no sign of any DLC at the moment and HMQ seem to be tightlipped on what they are working on.
@render Thanks.. im close to closing off 8 of the 10 trophys left. at the moment, its the 6th sunface fragment to close off the house episodes, then ive 2 logs to find, and ive approx 6 ciphers left. really enjoying it tbh.i reckon i will try for the 100% just because i love the gameplay so much.
It will be my first Platinum ever..

@velio84 I felt the same going the other way and playing something like Demon’s Souls after Returnal. Not the look, as DeS looks amazing, but the responsiveness of the character - everything else is just so slow 😆
There are no glyphs / ciphers behind the locked doors so you won’t need to open those if you don’t want to. Good luck in finding what you need.
So cleared 2 more trophys off the list over the weekend. Got the 6th Sunface Fragmant and got to Proficiency lvl 30.. so,now ive to clear the surveys and Beat the last boss for the real ending..
@Fill3rup_ Well done! I expect the surveys will be the ones that will take you the longest there. As long as you are still enjoying the game it hopefully won't be too bad.
@render Cheers! Yep,there one scout log in biome 4 and ive played through it so many times now,im thinking maybe ill have to go back and clear 2 and 3 first and then clear the last .just glyphs and one scoutlog left.
@velio84 If you're starting to not enjoy it then it might be a good time to put it down and you could always come back to it another time or play the odd run every now and then? The survey trophies are definitely the worst ones and hopefully they will take that on board with any future games. They have done some tweaks to the spawn rates of certain rooms as part of various patches but some of them still have such a low spawn rate that it does make it frustrating.
Great that you've been trying out the different weapons though. The Coilspine is one that I just couldn't get into, I just don't think my aim was good enough. I've seen some vids of people destroying bosses with it though so get the right traits and it can be your friend. I also generally struggled using the Pyroshell Caster, all except for one run where I had some good traits with it and it just seemed to work. I wish I remember what they were though 😆
@velio84
I massively feel your pain on this... I shot for the platinum (eventually achieving) but there were occasions where the RNG Gods were not favoring me in the slightest!
There were 2 ciphers I needed, both in Biome2, that I did probably about 50-60 runs until they popped. Luckily, I was still quite addicted to the gameplay and wasnt quite ready to 'quit' Returnal. For a lesser game I would have given up far earlier for sure.
I'd say this was a much more frustrating platinum than Demon's Souls.
One piece of advice - I eventually learnt to limit myself to 2 runs per day MAXIMUM and then played other things in between. Eventually you will get all the ciphers!! But it is a slog for sure
