@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I just went back to it there and somehow beat Gilded Hunter first time so very happy right now! Shouldn’t be that far behind you now.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Most people seem to LOVE VIII, but I had a really difficult time getting into it. I didn't like the world design, to be honest. DQXI is more linear, but it flows so much more nicely.

Although I do kind of miss the tension system from VIII.

I really need to complete XI S' post-game. It's been a year or more now since I stopped playing.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah I started VIII but could never really get into it. I also got about halfway through VI on DS and bounced off. VII is another one that’s a bit weird and massively obtuse and that’s the 3DS remake which I’ve played so I dread to think what the original is like. IX is the best RPG on DS though, hands down. It’s right up there with the best RPGs ever to be honest, tons of content and a story that hits hard, even with characters you create yourself.

@nessisonett Interesting. I've always been under the impression that IX was the weird pure gameplay one that wasn't the best place to go if you wanted a decent story, which is why I always avoided it.

@Ralizah I can see why someone might think that given that your playable characters don’t speak at all but it more than makes up for it with the individual stories of each town and the way those characters interact with your party, which are better than even DQXI, at least of the 25 hours I’ve played. There are a whole lot more sidequests as well and a great class system. There are a few specific towns and their stories which still stay with me even 10 years after I got the game. It also essentially invented the StreetPass mechanics with treasure maps you could exchange with people, which totally blew up in Japan. It’s a strange game but one I’d recommend to as many people as possible and it definitely beats out the Final Fantasy games on DS even if it was perhaps a bit overshadowed.

@colonelkilgore Hopefully I'll miss that frustrating boss. The hardest boss for me so far, I'm very early in, was the Argent wolf berserker. He himself wasn't too bad, but the run to get there through teleporting enemies made it rough after multiple deaths.

@Elodin

Yeah that whole area, Cathedral of Blood(?) was a bit annoying in general really. Maybe the biggest area in the game and very little to distinguish one section of it to the other, remember I got lost quite a bit there... particularly the section directly after the Argent Wolf mini boss.

I suppose the final boss I mention earlier was a bit frustrating at first but looking back (I had to beat it a few times for the various endings) it (The Virgin Born) is probably my favourite boss in the game. It’s definitely the most difficult but it’s also the most unique (I did find that most CV bosses were just bi-pedal 8-footers of varying elemental powers), the Virgin Born is on four legs and about the size of Sif from Dark Souls, with all types of attacks.

@colonelkilgore ahh nice, looking forward to that boss. This game definitely scratches the souls itch. It helps as I search unsuccessfully for a ps5 to purchase and then buy Demon souls.

I've always meant to replay DQVIII at some time to see if I think any differently of it @Ralizah as I don't quite remember... Well... Any of it to be perfectly honest aside from Yungus and him calling everyone Guv.

I know I didn't like it that much but I can't really recall why. At least with it being cel shaded it'll still look really nice compared to most ps2 games.

1. LEGO CITY Undercover
2. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

@RogerRoger
I only play LEGO CITY Undercover as i never like Western superheroes, Star Wars, any Western licensed (Harry Potter, Jurrasic Park, Movie, etc)
I triple dipped LEGO CITY Undercover (Wii U, Switch, PS4) because that was the only LEGO games without Western Super heroes and any Western licensed franchised. I don't like at all their costumes, looking, storyline and the popularity. I prefer something Normal, without any horrendous looking outfits. For me, Normal looking peoples such as Police, Firefighter, Miner, Construction Worker, Astronout, etc are the Real Super heroes in real world.

Just completed Knack 2. Was a fun game to play!

Played a bit more Code Vein and I made my way through the City of Falling Flame which was probably my least favourite area of the game so far. At least I beat the boss first time!

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Ha ha - yes, I have given up on that particular platinum notion. Life is too short and I don't have the skills to do it. The Silkson demo was cool but it literally dropped you into a boss fight with no time to get used to the controls so it was a rather 'brief' demo for me!

@Thrillho Well I just found the path of pain after getting a bit through The White Palace and... nah. The White Palace is too hard for me. Took me two hours to get to the third bench plus lots of swearing. I'm not great at platformers as it is... Going to try and keep at it as I want to get the true ending. I only have that, a couple of charms and the final Colesseum fight to do before the final bosses. However given my progress in The White Palace, probably another weeks work!

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

Still on the last of us part 2, I'm near the end of the game now I'm guessing and honestly it's been a roller coaster of emotions while playing. I've absolutely loved it, and I replayed the first just before Christmas to refresh my mind and I was thinking it would be hard to top this but honestly it's come very close.

Also still grinding through the division 2, enjoying this alot more than I thought

Ha ha I felt the exact same @nessisonett. The next area's much better and fairly normal bar one mechanic that can be a little troublesome depending on how you play.

I don't think we have much longer left of the game from the sounds of things thanks to Mido's reveal after the Emily/Successor Of The Claw fight...

@Rudy_Manchego I guess you know about the “pogo” technique of attacking down to bounce off enemies/obstacles? (I’m sure you do but the game never tells you about it!)

The Path of Pain is certainly not for the faint hearted and I completed it out of pure stubbornness.

You don’t need to do the colosseum or get all charms for the “true” ending; you just need the item from the White Palace (and the accompanying piece) to obtain another item which gives you the ending you’re after.

All a bit complex but I did most of it naturally.

@Ralizah @nessisonett The story vignette's in Dragon Quest IX are really quite lovely, and easily some of the strongest in the entire series. Its story has become rather overlooked; I think the lack of proper party characters is what led to the game's reputation, but it's more than made up for in other areas. The job system is pretty well developed and has a lot of depth. I remember spending hours grinding with liquid metal slimes to max them all out. Although Dragon Quest XI has a better overarching story and party characters, I'd say the individual tales in each town are better in DQIX. It's a very beguiling game.

Dragon Quest VIII's world was wonderful to explore at the time. Having a large, to-scale map was extremely impressive on the PS2 given that the Final Fantasy games had opted for smaller, interconnected areas and FFX was essentially linear.
