And you're good @CaptD, I'm more appreciative for the impetus to fully complete/platinum another game. It managed to stay on the fun enough side of going for, even with it's frustrations. Well done on your latest addition to the tally also, it's good to fit in a quick relaxing game in amongst the lengthier games.
I'm currently eyeing up what of my remaining backlog I care enough about to go back and finish/mop up more trophies. Resogun, Dirt Rally 2.0, Oddworld New 'n' Tasty and Rebel Cops are the ones I'm leaning towards at the moment. I also recently restarted Just Cause 3 but I'm undecided if I want to keep going with that one, not really loving the whole grapple hook mechanic.
@BearsEatBeets
I vaguely remember one trophy on Dirt 2.0 nearly blocking my platinum on that, think you have to get in the top 25% on a daily online time trial or something along those lines. Problematic for me as I was particularly bad at the game! Might be worth checking a guide if you're planning to go for it.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@sorteddan To be honest I've not considered any of them likely to be a platinum just a higher completion of trophies. With that being said I've already decided to not bother with Oddworld and leaning that way with Rebel Cops after having a quick go of each. I quite enjoyed my quick go of Dirt Rally so I will probably just play through it and see what's left at the end.
@colonelkilgore Maybe if I get a better hang of it I'll enjoy it a bit more, I haven't quite given up on it just yet. But if I do, it's totally the games fault and not that I'm naff at it.
@BearsEatBeets
Ahh got you. I sometimes flick back over the trophy list and see games with unreasonably low percentages and feel a pang of regret or guilt and intend to go back and improve on them. Sometimes I even do - that's how I ended up playing Slay the Spire again last month (improved from 1% to around 30%). tbh I think it's usually games I download from PS+ start up, don't fancy at the time and then forget about. I wish there was an option to delete games from my trophy list to deal with it.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@BearsEatBeats Nice selection of super rare platinums there, I too was looking at Odd world as I recently watched a PS Access platinum stream where the person obtained it (and he is the person among the team that doesn't trophy hunt). I have it downloaded on my ps5 but I probably won't bother, that game is too stressful for me.
As for Just cause 3 , I agree with the Colonel
And with regards to Dirt rally 2, sorteddan is right as the nasty trophy is called 'fire it up again' or something like that where you have to drive a pig (an Audi Quattro) and get it in the top tier which will contain other cars which aren't pigs. The one saving grace here though is special events which show up every so often, delta events I think where there is just two tiers, so just top 50%.
I remember when I did it, driving the pig crazy fast along this stage in New Zealand and having barely a foot either side, the side of the road having this stupid pavement or fence which caused the pig to fly (yes they can). Nightmare.
Nice rare platinum though and even rarer as it was a ps+ game.
Dirt rally 1 was also great fun, one of my proudest plats and in VR as well. Strangely enough they announced that they were shutting the servers down, this was in October I think and they are still up so fingers crossed for psvr2 upgrade (it won't happen).
@sorteddan Slay the spire is on my list but I'm not sure it is my bag, however I am currently playing Table of Tales on psvr, that is a card battler so perhaps the genre will grow on me.
@sorteddan@CaptD That Audi trophy did for me as well. Tried for weeks during the first lockdown and eventually gave up. Might go back to it at some point, especially after that little tip from Capt
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
Platinum #127 - Man of Medan - actually quite enjoyed this… although the trophy list is horrible (something I’ve heard was remedied in the subsequent Dark Pictures Anthology games after much criticism). Maybe my favourite of the Cinematic-linear adventure games (Telltale-likes if you will) that I’ve played tbh.
@colonelkilgore Good to hear Man of Medan was worth your time. I hear the Dark Pictures series gets better with each installment, so that bodes well for you going forward as MoM is apparently the weakest one. I still have it and the second one in my backlog, along with The Quarry.
What was your time to completion and time to plat?
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution I’d say it was ‘roughly’ around 20 - 25 hours… took 5 playthroughs, which could’ve easily been more if I wasn’t able to kill multiple birds with single stones. Was real interesting how even the smallest of different choices changed things up in the narrative.
Edit. time to completion on first playthrough was maybe around 6-7 hours… but my quickest playthrough (playthrough 3 of 5) was maybe under 3 hours.
@colonelkilgore Well done on MoM, that game is on my list although I'm getting to the point where I've got that many games that I need to stop trying to complete everything and separate the wheat from the chaff. Did you have any problems? I read that the coop mode is a bit buggy.
I would ordinarily not post about someone else's trophy achievements but shout out to my girlfriend who got the Like A Dragon Ishin platinum last night. I'm playing that game and on my way to the platinum and lemme tell you guys, even for a Yakuza game, this one is out of control.
@CaptD cheers bud, the only glitch my co-op partner and I experienced was a couple of collectibles not registering for the other player when collected (which was a bit annoying tbh)… but we made sure to play the co-op playthrough in one sitting to avoid the possibility that the invited player not getting the co-op completion trophy. If you do decide to go for it and need a co-op partner, let me know 👍.
Nice one @colonelkilgore
Glad it wasn't too much of a drag for you
@Th3solution@CaptD
Same, I played through it but was happy to leave it at that. I'd definitely place it more in the chaff category so was just good with completing it and moving on, didn't have the appetite or enthusiasm to go for the plat on that one.... And I have to convince myself that sometimes that's ok (still working on this!)
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@sorteddan How about the other Dark Pictures anthology? Have you played Little Hope and the others? Or also The Quarry? (In my mind that game feels like it should be Dark Pictures Anthology Part 5)
If so how would you compare them as far as overall game experience and also trophy hunting potential?
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution can't help you there as I haven't played or got access any of the others. I did play (and plat) Until Dawn many years ago and remember really enjoying that one though.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@sorteddan Ok, no problem. Just curious. I have access to MoM, Little Hope, and now The Quarry all on PS+Extra. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending how you look at it) House of Ashes and The Devil in Me are supposedly the best of the lot. But my obsessive-compulsive tendencies make me reluctant to skip the first 2 entries, especially since they are “free”.
