Platinum 69 - 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - Great game! Took me a while (most of my playthrough in fact) to fully appreciate it… but yeah what an epic sci-if tale… and the battle sections start to get really epic towards the end too. Nice trophy list too, most of which just pop as you play through the game.
I’d recommend it to everyone who is on the fence… but you need to commit to powering through some hours where you question your decision to have started it in the first place.
@colonelkilgore
Good work once again colonel.
Guess it was the ending that swung it for you then, was surprised to see you give it a 'great game' after reading earlier impressions elsewhere but glad it clicked with you eventually.
I do like a good sci fi yarn so may keep it on my radar

@Sorteddan thanks mate… yeah, I was going back and forth on it but I was really enjoying pretty much everything about it by the end. It’s crazy how much you ‘know’ each individual character by the time that you get to the big battles… and the fact that you can identify so strongly with them by that point adds so many emotional layers to the battles. It’s very clever.
@Keith_Zissou cheers buddy, 37... so far 😉😉... which blows me away a bit as I set myself the target of getting 18 at the start of the year (which would've got my overall to 50).
@Keith_Zissou just a bit mate 😅. I started planning a schedule January 2021, though I'm constantly tweaking it when certain games take my fancy.
Initially it was all AAA action adventure/open-world games... but posting here has opened my eyes to other things so I've tried to fit them in here and there too. So now I'm trying to get some AA's, metroidvania's, rogue-likes/lites and just plain indies in too.
@colonelkilgore@Keith_Zissou
Just done a quick tally and I'm on 30 platinum trophies earned so far this year (hopefully get a couple more before the bongs). That's out of 60 games played (at least started that have registered in the trophy list) so exact 50% hit rate though there are a couple of those that I got 100% completion but they didn't have plats.
Just in case no-one was wondering...

@colonelkilgore That’s great news. Like @Jimmer-jammer I’ll definitely keep it safely stored away …somewhere where it won’t be forgotten (the cupboard, maybe?).
You’ve definitely motivated me to push through the slight sloggish feeling it has in the middle parts. To hear that the characters do become more endearing is comforting because I wasn’t really invested in most of their plights at the time.
So does the good outcome motivate you to further expand into more ‘visual novel’ types? I think if memory serves you had considered some other Vanillaware games like Dragon’s Crown, Odin’s Sphere, and Muramasa, so maybe this will compel you to try more of their output?

You guys are killing it. I also got a few new plats this year but nowhere near that
I guess I could've done like 5 more in the time I spent playing Guilty Gear online though
@Keith_Zissou Agreed. I enjoy seeing everyone’s accomplishments.
So…. Since we’re reporting — I’ve played 21 games this year and 7 platinums. So pretty much a 33% plat rate this year, which I’m fine with. Sure, I wish it was higher, but a few of those I didn’t platinum were played to the gills and only had a few trophies left but I jumped ship before it became too much to ruin my enjoyment (I’m looking at you, Returnal…)

@Th3solution yeah I'm definitely interested in playing more Vanillaware games... particularly Dragons Crown Pro (so if anyone fancies some co-op on it I'll be playing it sometime next year).
Visual novel-wise... yeah I'm definitely not less interested anyway. I bought the Danganronpa trilogy a while back and am eyeing up Doki Doki Literature Club (it's in the January sale actually). So yeah, might fit one in in 2022 if I can... any suggestions on other classics or the genre?
@colonelkilgore I'm a huge fan of the Steins;Gate visual novel games, so I highly recommend those. They have pretty easy Platinums as well as long as you use a guide.
@colonelkilgore
Didn't plan on anything to be honest. I rarely look further forward than a week or two though I usually have a vague idea of what games I want to get on to in the near future. Then I start a bunch of stuff and see which ones stick...
We're not all hyper-organised advanced level gamers like you! (The fact you have games to play planned years in advance impresses, amuses and horrifies me!).
Anyway as a year end retrospective it might be worth forum members giving mention to easiest, hardest and most memorable platinum (or any trophies?) achieved this year if anybody can be bothered. I'd be interested to read others thoughts on these. Will do so myself, but maybe in a week or so coz I ain't finished yet.

It’s great to see some of these stats and it amazes me how some people seem to blitz through games. Looking at psnprofile it seem I’ve played 43 games this year but only got 13 platinums. I don’t actually remember playing that many but some of them were just trying out some things off of PS Now where I just for a few trophies before deciding it wasn’t really for me. Others though I could have easily got the platinum but just didn’t bother sticking around to tidy up things like collectibles.
@Sorteddan yeah I get that 🤣... and yeah I'll have a think and put a few lists together. What do you think to us all doing top 3 most difficult plats, top 3 easiest plats, top 3 most difficult trophies... and maybe top 3 most enjoyable trophy lists?
@colonelkilgore Yeah I have that game on Switch but haven't played it yet. It's made by the Danganronpa developer so it should be pretty good. If you want more visual novels from that developer then the Zero Escape trilogy (999, Virtue's Last Reward, Zero Time Dilemma) is also pretty good from what I've heard.
@colonelkilgore
Fine by me. I don't really mind the format but maybe people would be put off if they didn't get six done. I'm just interested in the communities impressions and perceptions, and maybe also noting down the ones people class as easiest (would be surprised if we don't both include Donut County in that one - ahem - possible spoiler)

@colonelkilgore Yeah, the Danganronpa games are probably a good place to start. Thing about 13 Sentinels is that it’s not a pure visual novel, and in fact is quite unique so as to be hard to classify. But from the time I’ve spent with it I’d say it’s a lite VN with the added tactical combat stuff. Danganronpa likewise has some gameplay to keep you engaged whilst you do a lot of reading character conversations and story elements in between the gameplay parts, so it might be the best series that will keep you engaged, …hopefully. I got the first platinum, but it was a fair amount of end game grinding, but the 2nd and 3rd games have even more end game grinding for the platinum and so it was prohibitive for me. Fair warning on that.
But yeah, if you get along with Danganronpa then I’d say the Zero Escape games would be a safe bet.
Another that’s kinda similar genre-wise is Oxenfree. It has that 2D indie feel to it and is primarily narrative driven with some basic input required and choices for dialogue. It’s much shorter but does require 2 or 3 playthroughs for the platinum, but still pretty easy plat. Good game though, for a primarily story driven experience.
