Platinum #58 - The Last of Us part 2 - as ‘I may have mentioned’ this week 😉… what a game! I’m gonna get into it a bit more on the TLoU2 thread but it’s the best game I’ve played this year… and I’ve played some good ones.

Trophy journey-wise, I was surprised by how much of the ng+ I had to play… maybe I missed quite a lot of scrap and pills during my first play-through but I ended up getting all of the way to Lev and Yara! An intense week, playing one of the most intense of games… I’ve promised a pal I’ll co-op with him on Operation Tango today (which I will) but after that I think I might take a few days break.

@WCB @RogerRoger yeah cheers guys. Not a difficult Platinum at all… far more achievable than the original but I actually feel shattered!

@colonelkilgore Having not played TLoU2 yet, I can only imagine, but you’re not the first who has finished it and reported to be emotionally spent afterward. The themes are just so exhausting and intense, aren’t they?

@Th3solution it is super intense, something that I generally like if I’m honest… I just think that cramming a first playthrough (always a long playthrough as your navigating new environments and systems etc for the first time) and a second playthrough (probably between 2/3’s or 3/4’s of a complete playthrough) into four days was… a lot.

That sort of ‘cram’ is usually my favourite way to game but I think in the case of The Last of Us part 2 it’s best to just chip away at it slowly.

@colonelkilgore I usually don’t ‘cram’ a full game into a few days (unless it’s really short like What Remains of Edith Finch for example). Most of the time I grow a little tired of a game after 20-30 consecutive hours in a short time frame, so I have to either play another game for a little break or do something else entirely like watch some TV or run around doing random real world tasks.

I do get into a groove on some games though where I can marathon a few days in a row and just can’t get enough of it. The last time I was obsessed to that degree was probably Death Stranding. And even there I hit a wall at the mountain area and had to take a short break away. Metal Gear Solid V also harbors as one that I was just playing hugely long sessions day after day. Another was Skyrim. There’s nothing quite like the feeling that you just can’t get enough of a game world and can’t tear yourself away. It’s a great feeling.

@colonelkilgore
Good job on your latest shiny.
Always better when you really enjoy the experience.
And the intensity will ensure you remember it, maybe.

@Th3solution funny you should mention MGSV as I was only thinking yesterday that the last time I felt this exhausted from ‘just’ gaming was after cramming in 180+ hours into that in around a month (over hundred of those into the second two-week period of said month). After that I played A Wolf Among Us to recharge, so yesterday I installed Batman: The Telltale Game to ease my ‘come-down’ 😅.

@Sorteddan cheers buddy… and yeah even though I’m thoroughly burned out now, I’ll always hold it in the highest regard.

@colonelkilgore Telltale are perfect ways to clear out your brain and turn on that passive gaming consciousness. Just click buttons to make narrative choices and do QTE’s while you watch the trophies pile up. 😄
I actually quite like Batman, although A Wolf Among Us is probably my favorite TT game.

psmr

@Th3solution I can’t say that I’m a fan but I thought that the Batman version might win me over as… well it’s Bantman… but it’s not if I’m being totally honest. I’ll keep playing through it as I’ve started it now but I won’t be even thinking about another Telltale game until I’m totally burned-out again. I think I have the next Batman one, the Borderlands one and the Game of Thrones one left in the backlog.

@colonelkilgore I’d expect nothing less from
“The Gameplay King” 😉. The Borderlands one will probably be the best chance of you finding a favorite in the bunch, although they all play about the same, gameplay-wise. The Game of Thrones one is pretty weak, imo. And the second Batman is probably little stronger than the first, but it’s pretty close to the same quality.

Edit: did you play Until Dawn or Detroit Become Human yet?

psmr

@Th3solution I know right 😉. No, I almost started Detroit: Become Human a couple of months back but eventually decided on something else in the end. It does appeal to me though, the aesthetic looks beautiful and the story seems quite Philip K dick (if a little more mainstream-I-fied). I’m guessing it plays quite similarly to the Telltale games though.

@colonelkilgore Don’t sleep on Detroit. Yeah, on a surface level it shares genres with the Telltale games, but it’s not even in the same stratosphere. So much better — Graphically, conceptually, and yes, even with regard to gameplay. Not to say you’ll be deftly and skillfully slicing enemies like Dark Souls or cautiously jumping and climbing like Spider-Man, but there is a little more input involved and more significant puzzles. But the main thing is just narratively you are in so much more control. Anyways, I’m just curious how you’ll get on with it since it is still light in the gameplay department.
Until Dawn is a similar bag, and I felt like it was just not quite as intricate and complex as Detroit or even Heavy Rain, but it is still a step up from what Telltale does, and excellently crafted.
I still enjoy those TT game however.

@RogerRoger okidoki, I did play a little Heavy Rain at a mates house back in the day and it did feel ‘more’ than the Telltale games, so I’m than prepared to give them a try. 👍

@RogerRoger oh a ‘Trophy Hunter’ such as myself 😉 is well aware… part of my hobby is mentally cataloguing time-to-plat, minimum required playthroughs, any online requirements, Platinum difficulty etc. I don’t know if you recall the old late 80’s/early 90’s show You Bet but if you do, my current speciality would definitely be PlayStation trophy journeys.

A minor annoyance that I know we’ve discussed on her before, but….
Just was looking through my trophy list and bummed to see my Ghost is Tsushima percent completion is at 65% despite my having the platinum. It was once 100% back when I played it and there has been so much added piecemeal that my percentage has plummeted.

Not a huge deal but it’s just an unspoken symbol of a game I love and spend a lot of time with to have a high trophy percentage. I guess 65% ain’t too bad, but after finding all the hidden alters and artifacts, etc it’s just feels a little defeating. 😛

Thrillho

I’m glad the latest Ghost patch took away the requisite for a DLC trophy to require you to have finished the Legends mode so I now have all the Iki Island trophies.

@Thrillho that is fantastic.

this should set the example for any SP games,DLC's with online trophies.
