@johncalmc yeah I always check the opening section of a trophy guide too ie time to plat, minimum number of playthru’s, missable trophies, speed-runs required, difficulty, online trophies. What I’ve found though is initially those requirements might have put me off but I’ve now found myself at the stage where I’m still taking these kinds of trophy lists on. I will just bookmark the missable trophies (avoiding as many spoilers as possible when doing so) and ensure I pop them as I go.

@colonelkilgore I still take some on. It depends on the game. Like Dark Souls I knew would require multiple runs but I knew that going in and I wanted to do it because I wanted a bash at new game plus anyway. Mass Effect 2 I played a few times to see the differences. Infamous or something where you make different choices.

But sometimes multiple runs will make or break it for me - like there's no way I'd have the platinum in Mad Max, for example, if I had to play it twice. I got it because it was an open world do everything in any order no missables etc classic trophy list. Like an Assassin's Creed or something.

Basically I think it depends on the game how much effort I'm willing to put in.

@johncalmc yeah I’m with you on the multiple play through s on open world games (like if Mad Max required it)... although I’ve recently bought the Yakuza games and I think they require multiple playthru’s. I guess I’ll have to see how I feel after the first Yakuza playthru.

@johncalmc @colonelkilgore I would sometimes check for any missable trophies, but that would occasionally contain spoilers, so I stopped doing that.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@colonelkilgore Yakuza was one of those where I abandoned all hope of the platinum and just played it for fun. I've only played the first Yakuza but it seemed like it was going to take forever and I was worried that it would annoy me and ruin the experience. That's another thing. I take a punt on whether I think getting all of the trophies will ruin the experience for me. If they're grindy or tedious sounding then - particularly for a story based game - I'll just play it and enjoy it and not worry.

I don't pay much attention to trophies when I'm first starting out on a game. It's only when I'm far into it that I'll look to see what's required for Platinum.

If the trophies aren't too tedious, I'm enjoying the game, and want to play more of it, then I'll go for the platinum. Otherwise I won't worry about trophies.

Thrillho

@colonelkilgore As I’ve said before, for Yakuza games it’s not the fact you’d have to replay the game that would stop me going for platinum with the insane completion list each game has that means you’ll spend hours eating at every restaurant as well as having to master mahjong and other Japanese board games/gambling games.

Thrillho

psmr

@Thrillho yeah I do remember you mentioning it... and trust me I’m not devaluing your thoughts but I’m at least going to try on the first Yakuza game I end up playing (be it 0 or Kiwame) and if it does turn out to be too much I’ll gracefully withdraw at story completion.

So, a bit bummed out. Planned on getting the Dying Light plat by close of play today but still needing the Homo Homini Lupis Est trophy. It’s a particularly annoying bronze that you can only get by completing a particularly rare event 15 times. I still need another 4 🤬

Platinum 101 for me was Assault Suit Leynos this morning. Fun little mech game, was a nice challenge. Trophy list is pretty much entirely skill based which is always nice.

@JapaneseSonic
Think I'd probably feel a bit ripped off if I could plat a game that quickly. Unless there's lots more replay value beyond the trophies.

@colonelkilgore
Unlucky man, it is a pain when stuff like that happens.

Thrillho

@colonelkilgore Ha, don't worry about devaluing my thoughts or anything but the completion list is just so extensive.

I've just finished with Y5 and after 128hrs have 55% "completion"!! (I think all of those continues and health items were from the super hard optional boss, honest).

This shows you just how much stuff there is. It's really weirdly weighted towards making weapons and gear, plus you have eating/drinking everything off every menu, and then all of the actual mini-games too.

Best of luck to you if you do go for it!

@Thrillho cheers bud, yeah I have to be honest that 200+ hours is kinda where I draw the line (& 55% @ 128 hours would seem to imply that). I just have way too many games in my backlog to devote 200+ hours.

Like I said though, I'll start the series and play towards the plat and judge it as I go.

Plat #36: Dying Light done. Really good fun, playable, well produced, great in single and multi-player (still even though it’s like 6 years old), decent skills progression... just well worth a look if you haven’t previously.

So looks like Remnant from the Ashes is available on PS+ next month. There are a few co-op requirements for the plat, so if anyone is interested I'll be up for some co-op. I'm booked for March but gonna play it April.

I spent probably about an hour trying to get the 'Overdesign II' trophy in AC Valhalla this morning. Anyone done this and maybe have any idea what I'm missing?
Trophy description (While on fire during a fight, kill 3 hard difficulty soildiers without breaking their shields)

@BearsEatBeets it is ‘apparently’ notoriously glitchy. A lot of people seem to be suggesting killing 5+ hard enemies during a combat sequence (even though it should only take 3).

Many people seem to point towards this particular video guide:

@colonelkilgore I watched something similar and it's pretty much the method I tried but appreciate the link. I've since read a few more things to try which aren't in anyway in the trophy description. One is a few more kills as you mention, another involves making sure to extinguish yourself in-between kills and the other travelling to another town and doing it to one more shield enemy nearby. I'll try them all tomorrow but it seems pretty ridiculous, whoever came up with this trophy needs a slap!

I bought the Instant Indie Collection Vol. 5 for 1.44€ (!!) and I got a couple plats from it.

#301 The Little Acre - A (very) small and forgettable point & click, not really bad but way too short and easy. I'm talking about a 1-2 hour platinum.

#302 Human Fall Flat - A very interesting game based on physics, I really liked it and there's a lot of free DLC available. Plus the trophy list is really fun.

Third game was Manual Samuel, but it was just dumb and not interesting, I deleted it.

UPDATE :

#303 ArtPulse - I bought this VR experience for 1€ and I thought, why not ? It's like a VR drawing experience where you combine shapes and colors, it's nice and relaxing but it's not a game. I have no idea why there's a platinum trophy in it but it's achievable in 15 minutes. Fastest plat ever !
