Any idea what they need to work on again? Every other day they take it down and it's getting old. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with my PS4 and think it outshines the X-Box 1. But, I have never not been able to log into X Box Live for a maintenance issue and I have had live since 07. Why does Sony do this constantly and why during the day? Maybe Microsoft does bring the servers down for this, but apparently they do it in the middle of the night when it doesn't interfere with most people, not on peak times and weekends like Sony. 3pm on a Thursday Sony? C'mon give me a break!
I keep getting the server is down for maintenance message. I can't do anything online. I appreciate the fact that they work on the servers, but I think their frequency and times they choose to do it are ridiculous.
Yeah...down for maintenance here again (Germany). It is indeed ridiculous! I love my PS4 and are very happy with the system itself, but PSN is a bad joke compared to Xbox Live. I've been an Xbox 360 gamer mostly last gen and there were hardly ever any problems with XBL, except the occasional hickups around big launches like Halo 3 or CoD MW 1/2.
PSN seems to be down due to maintenance and/or technical issues on a weekly basis. It may have been acceptable on PS3 as long as online gaming was free, but since PS+ is mandatory for online gaming on PS4, the situation is unacceptable and Sony has to step up their game and get their stuff together ASAP. I don't play online that often, but if feels like about 50% of the time I do want to play online, it doesn't work and I begin to lose interest in online gaming on PS4 at all because it's such an underwhelming and frustrating experience.
I sincerely hope that this gets better fast and that the current maintenance happening is just in preparation for the big strain that Destinys launch next week will put on the network, but judging from my experience with PSN until now, I fear the worst and frankly expect to not be able to play at all on the 9th or with problems.
Might be something to do with the recent hack jobs. I mean last week's maintenance was scheduled but I haven't heard of this latest one so it strikes me as maybe something to do with the hack like tightening security.

There are a lot of reports that traffic due to Minecraft's release today are a likely cause. Many people bought the game only to have their money gone and no game, so I hope that the traffic slows later tonight. I saw in a few places on forums that people who have contacted Sony say that they were told that the servers should be up later tonight. I hope it's true frankly, because I want me a piece of that Minecraft PS4
I agree Skeeve. It is frustrating getting done with work and not being able to log on and use what I paid for. Paid for twice actually since my son needed a PSN account on a different PS4. I have had it happen the last 2 weekends as well. They need to do it right the first time, and not during the middle of the day.
Well Punkin it's great to hear I can't get on do to some weird kids game. I know it's popular for some reason, but that just adds insult to injury. Why as well is the whole network down due to one game? So one game has issues and no one can use online service for any game period? You never saw that issue with Microsoft. If there was an issue with EA, Ea servers were down. Not the entire network. If this continues I will not buy another membership. As much as I like the PS4 over X box, I'll go back because at least I can use it.
@The_Waffler: Yes the system can go down cause of one game. Its all on the same servers so if a flood of people all at one time flood the servers cause all of them are on Minecraft it can cause other parts to fail. That was the idea behind the DDoS attack a few weeks ago.

Why don't the direct traffic like Microsoft then? There has been issues with various game servers with the X Box due to high traffic or other problems, and it hasn't caused the entire Microsoft network to go down.
Never went down for me(state side) and I always find that their maintenance times are great. Working during the day and only logging on at nights and weekends. I have yet not been able to play an online game due to server problems. Even when it was down for scheduled maintenance I was still able to log on Diablo3 and play a bit with my buddy, so not sure what the problem is here. In case you do not read other gaming sites, xbox live has been going down quite a bit, I read an article about it almost every week. Both will have their ups and downs but I would not say xbox live is vastly superior and never has server problems when it most certainly does and will continue to have.

Not trying to be arguementative and I see what you are saying. But, they should do what Microsoft does since they don't have that issue. Sony should know better since they have way more experience in the console field and plenty of money and resources at their fingertips. If PSN gets crippled due to some chump kids game, imagine when Destiny comes out.

I don't understand Minecraft. My kids play it and I think it's odd. Sad that so many adults play it but to each their own. You are right though, if Minecraft can do this, we could be in big trouble with Destiny.

Honestly when it comes to servers computer expertise will trump console expertise. The PS one didnt have online function and the PS2s was so primitive its not even funny. Really online console gaming didnt come into its prime till MS started it with games like Halo 2.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Destiny running on A ctivisions servers? I know on the beta psn had some trouble but that is because everyone jad to download it thru psn. I imagine a majority will be using a physical copy and I dont see a huge rush to psn on launch day like during the beta. Then factor in pre downloading that almost everyone buying destiny will use and I dont see where the problem is. Go troll somewhere else, psn will be fine.
Why don't we all just calm down. Sometimes things need maintenance. It's not the end of the world.
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
