just finished mirrors edge on ps3 god im so conflicted on this game when the movement clicks its great when it doesn't it feels borderline broken. thinking about it i loved running over the top of buildings but didnt like the indoor platforming parts they didnt work. I would side on i didnt really like it but I am now intrigued to try out mirrors edge catalyst to see if that is an improvement
@trev666 I also felt the same way when I played Mirror's Edge years ago. The parkour just doesn't feel responsive all the time and it's not always clear either where you need to go. I vividly remember spending around 20 minutes in an indoor area because I couldn't find the specific point the game wanted me to go.
It'd be a completely different story if there were multiple paths to take to get to your destination but there aren't. This is a linear game. Although I've heard Catalyst is an open world game, so maybe it's better in that regard.
It'd be interesting to try Mirror's Edge again in 2024 because I remember loving the game back when I played it shortly after it came out. I do agree that the indoor platforming parts weren't great, but I don't remember ever having any real issues with finding where to go outdoors. Everything was usually marked pretty well if I remember correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong as it has been a while.
Things could be different as it's no longer something that is so original like it was back then, but I know I had a positive opinion on it back then.

@Yousef- I can't promise I'll ever actually get to the replay I mentioned, but we'll see.
The sequel isn't bad, but I know my memories of that aren't anywhere near as positive as the original. It probably didn't help that I didn't venture too much into the open world of the game and just went for the story for the most part. Not that I didn't like Catalyst, but not as much as the original.

@LtSarge@KilloWertz@Yousef- I remember absolutely loving Mirror’s Edge back in the day… so much so that you have me considering adding yet another game to my PS3 backlog (just when it looked like I was close to locking it down 😅).
@colonelkilgore
Good luck. I remember I couldn't even complete the tutorial/prologue on that game, I had to run and jump or something like that and for the life of me I just could not do it.
Thankfully I didn't even manage to unlock the first trophy as I'd rather not have any more trophy lists like Shaun White snowboarding with one silly trophy unlocked so I can't delete the list.
@Yousef- a couple of things… it was the first year that trophies were introduced, so online trophies from that long ago are notoriously hard to boost for many reasons (servers, active player base etc.) but more importantly I just done all the online GTA IV stuff (another 2008 game) and as I’ve mentioned previously… was a bit of a nightmare 😅
@Yousef- yes sir! it’s always good to meet a fellow Broken Sword fan!! Do you play other PS1 games?. Me and the fam have retro game nights through the Super slim PS3, I’ve got quite a large collection. I usually get my backside handed to me on Tekken 2 by my daughter.. 😂 good times.
@Yousef- oh wow you certainly got some bangers there hah. I’ve been collecting for a few years now. My favourite PS1 games would be Broken Sword 1&2 and I enjoyed Sleeping Dragon on PS2 aswell, I have a sealed copy of that 👌. Parrappa is an absolute classic but I’m yet to add Um Jammer to my collection, I will get that!. Command Conquer is also a big series for me. How about the strike games?, as in Desert and Urban Strike, I played those to death as a kid 😂. You’re so right btw, retro gaming rules!!. I should get my actual PS1 down and do it properly! You have inspired me 😂😂
Edit; it’s Nuclear and Urban not Desert, I think Desert was Mega drive/ Genesis
Returned to the Rage campaign today after around 12 months off. It’s probably a little better than I remember tbh… not amazing or anything but I’ve enjoyed it well enough. Finished off the last missable stuff today, so gonna try and push through for the plat now. Though there is a playthrough on Nightmare required, so nothing is concrete quite yet 😏
Just finished off my Nightmare playthrough on Rage this morning and… while it’s certainly not up there with some of the ps3 bangers I’ve played this year, I’m glad I played it.
Now, well I’m still chipping away at the Final Fantasy XIII post game grind… which still has a fair bit of meat left on the bone, so that’s become a long-term side game for now. Main game-wise I’ll be starting Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 this week.
@colonelkilgore
Nice. Have you got the five finger fillet yet?
I managed to get the MP trophies years ago but that was about as far as I got, I do have Rage 2 in the backlog so might play that soon.
I'm playing Thief on PS4 which is actually not that bad aside from them not putting in a Hidden Areas tracker (seriously why the F do Devs fail to implement such obvious features, I think they do it just to annoy people....it worked, big time).
Anyhoo it is on PS3 but I can't imagine playing that version with the load times etc...
@CaptD yeah it wasn’t that bad in the end… I remembered the tip you gave me ages ago about quickly pausing after each knife-drop. Much appreciated btw 😉.
So I have noticed Thief on fairly deep sales every now and then but never felt any pull to look into it. What exactly is it… like an immersive-sim maybe?
@colonelkilgore
Yeah immersive sim I guess, very much sneaking around in the shadows , pickpocketing people and then clubbing them. A bit like Dishonoured but nowhere as good plus you can see the PS3 limitations being applied to the game design i.e. Lots of loading etc...
Worth playing if you like stealth but play the other big hitters first.
I was playing Hitman 1 which got me in the sneaking mood but that has been put on hold for the VR2 patch, really fun game though and I was really digging it. I only played the first level of hitman 1 so haven't played much but I really appreciated the lack of sandbox for noobs, if you wanted to you could follow a few different stories in the level which made the game very approachable allowing you to become aware of various items in the environment to facilitate the removal of people.
Well after much hair being pulled from scalp, I’ve managed 100% of the collectibles on Dead Space 3… what a palaver! 😅 After an odyssey of 11 year old (and therefore terrible) collectible lists, runs and runs (& runs) through chapter 4 and it’s optional side mission, thinking that my save was glitched and that I’d have to erase my game and play through the whole thing again… I chanced my arm by entering the co-op mission on chapter 4, somehow managed to access it without a co-op partner and discovered that my co-op partner from 3 years ago (who said he knew where everything was and to just let him take the lead and collect everything) had missed 3 collectibles in a floating fuselage outside of the co-op missions destination! Feel like I’ve been run over continuously by a car with tyres wrapped in rusted barbed-wire 😅
So I’m now just over 3/4’s of the way through my first Hard playthrough of Dead Space 3 (I done a 100% run on Normal and have another two Hard playthroughs after this one) and I’m starting to think that this is a really good game… and by extension the Dead Space series has probably entered (or is damn close) my top 5 games series of all-time.
I’m still to play 2 (I know… I’m playing it in a stupid order) but from the things I’ve read and the conversations I’ve had, it’s at least the second best of the series maybe the best… so the fact 3 has hit like this gives me confidence in making that statement. If anyone skipped 3 due to the negative buzz (or has only played the Remake) I’d recommend giving it a go for sure.
Right now I’m thinking Dark Souls, Metal Gear Solid, God of War & GTA in no particular order and then… I might be forgetting something (probably am tbh) but much to my surprise Dead Space is up there.
