Hollow Knight: Silksong (PS5)

Team Cherry made a name for itself with the original Hollow Knight. A truly beloved indie game, it's a sprawling Metroidvania with Souls influences, featuring an enormous underground map to uncover and countless platforming and combat challenges. Follow-up Silksong is set to build on all the first game's successes, and is a sure-fire winner for 2023.

Horizon Call of the Mountain (PS5)

Easily the biggest PSVR2 launch game we know about so far, Horizon Call of the Mountain looks set to be the new headset's showpiece with spectacular visuals and a campaign that demonstrates everything the device can do. We expect it to be immersive, enjoyable, and excellent. Aloy won't be playable, but she'll feature at some point in the story too.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores (PS5)

Following the events of the Forbidden West, Aloy’s adventure continues, as she travels to the untamed lands of Los Angeles in the enormous Burning Shores expansion. Here you’ll encounter new enemies, adventures, and characters in this epic PS5-only add-on.

Layers of Fear (PS5)

A busy year for Polish developer Bloober Team will see it return to its breakout hit, as it looks to build upon the psychological, experiential horror of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2 in this Unreal Engine 5-powered scare-fest.

Lies of P (PS5)

Carlo Collodi’s legendary fairy tale Pinocchio gets a Bloodborne-inspired gothic reimagining in the promising Lies of P, a sinister Souls-like filled with unspeakable horrors. Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name (PS5)

This entry is an offshoot of the main series that explores what happened to Kazuma Kiryu in-between Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. With the main games moving to turn-based combat, Like a Dragon Gaiden instead adopts the familiar beat-'em-up action form the older games. We're looking forward to pummelling more thugs as the Dragon of Dojima.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! (PS5)

Western fans have been wanting to play this Yakuza spin-off for years now, so a full remake from Ryu Ga Gotoku is putting them in dreamland. This historical take on the beat-em-up/RPG franchise takes place in the 1860s, and features all the classic Japanese architecture you'd expect along with a new story and characters.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (PS5)

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is one of the very few PS5 titles from PlayStation Studios confirmed for 2023 so far, but Peter Parker and Miles Morales will probably outsell anything else Sony could put out next year anyway. We expect both web-slingers to be playable this time, with the story introducing Venom. Gameplay will probably be expanded on too with new gadgets and combat moves. It's easily one of the most anticipated games of the year.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (PS4)

An absolutely colossal collection of ten turn-based GBA role-playing games, those who grew up with the Mega Man Battle Network games will have fond memories of the franchise. Updated with new visuals and features, like online multiplayer and trading, this is the latest in a long line of compilations featuring Capcom’s iconic mascot.

Monster Hunter Rise (PS5)

Following a year and change of Nintendo Switch and PC exclusivity, Monster Hunter Rise comes to PS5, PS4 with a whole load of critical acclaim and sales success under its belt. Widely considered to be the most approachable Monster Hunter game yet — even more so than Monster Hunter World — PlayStation players will finally get to see what all the fuss is about with those Wirebugs.

Octopath Traveler II (PS5)

The HD-2D art style comes to PlayStation systems for the very first time in Octopath Traveler II, which will build on the original game with new characters to play as and new stories to follow. That first title never made its way across to PS5, PS4, so this should be a fresh experience for most.

One Piece Odyssey (PS5)

The One Piece series goes full Dragon Quest with a traditional turn-based battle system and many other mechanics and traits you'd associate with the classic Square Enix RPGs. Releasing in early January, One Piece Odyssey has the potential to start 2023 with a pleasant bang.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals (PS5)

The original Oxenfree won itself many fans with its unique branching conversations and a thrilling sci-fi narrative. The sequel looks set to pick up where the first game left off, with Riley returning to her hometown five years later. You'll uncover the mystery behind those eerie radio signals and engage in meaningful chatter in this follow-up.

Pacific Drive (PS5)

Pacific Drive is one of 2023's most intriguing indie games. It's essentially a rogue-lite adventure, but the hook here is that your rusty old station wagon is your lifeline. You'll use it to explore a supernatural landscape and escape from dangers, upgrading it further as you find special resources. We're looking forward to getting in the driver's seat with this one.

Persona 3 Portable (PS4)

Persona 3 Portable, a re-released version of Persona 3, is actually a slightly more streamlined RPG compared to its PS2 counterpart – but it’s arrival on more modern PlayStation platforms comes at a time when the series has exploded in popularity, and therefore will likely appeal to newcomers who fell in love with the franchise thanks to Persona 5 Royal.

Persona 4 Golden (PS4)

One of the PS2’s last noteworthy games, and later a PS Vita critical darling, Persona 4 Golden is finally bringing is distinctive brand of JRPG to PS4 in January. Whether you’re playing it for the first time, or revisiting it for the hundredth, one thing is for certain: every day’s great at your Junes.

Pragmata (PS5)

We've seen basically nothing of this mysterious Capcom title since its announcement in 2020. Based on what we know, it's a sci-fi thriller in which you'll explore a "unique lunar world". It's certainly one of the most intriguing games on the horizon; here's hoping we'll see much more of it soon.

Resident Evil 4 (PS5)

A remake of one of the greatest games of all time, Resident Evil 4 is already making a case to be one of 2023's best titles months before it's even released. Keeping much of what made the original so outstanding, Capcom is also expanding on the survival horror game with bigger environments and new things to see and do. There's not a safer purchase you can make in 2023 than the Resident Evil 4 remake.
