What Are the Best Charms in Ghost of Tsushima and Where Do You Find Them?

Below you'll find a list of all the Charms that we think are worth seeking out in Ghost of Tsushima. We'll also detail where to find them and why we think they're useful.

There are two types of Charms. Common Silver Charms, which can be equipped in any slot, and rare Gold Charms. Only two Gold Charms can be equipped at any time. Jin can unlock up to 6 Charm slots.

In order to unlock more Charm slots, Jin will have to find Inari Shrines. For a full walkthrough on where to find every Inari Shrine in the game, check out the following guide: Ghost of Tsushima: All Fox Dens and Inari Shrine Locations.

Many of these rare and powerful Charms are found at Shinto Shrines. For a full list of all the Shinto Shrine locations in the game, refer to this guide: Ghost of Tsushima: All Shinto Shrine Locations.

Charm of Nigihayahi-no-Mikoto

Location: Pray at Frost Cliff Shrine in Act 3.

What it does: Deal moderate bonus damage while at full health.

Why it's useful: More experienced players who rarely get hit can make great use of this Charm. As long as you're at full health, you'll deal a good amount of extra damage with every blow.

Charm of Ryuujin

Location: Pray at Hazy Cliff Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Recover 1 Kunai after performing a Perfect Dodge.

Why it's useful: Perfect Dodges aren't especially easy to pull off, but more advanced players can get a lot of out this Charm. Kunai and other Ghost Weapons can turn the tide of battle very quickly, so having a way to recover a Kunai can give you a significant advantage during bigger fights.

Charm of Takemikazuchi

Location: Pray at Snowlit Peak Shrine in Act 3.

What it does: Killing an enemy increases Melee damage by a Minor amount for a few seconds.

Why it's useful: During bigger battles, having a melee damage boost activate every time you kill an enemy can help you tear through the rest of your foes. With this Charm equipped, target lightly armoured opponents like archers in order to quickly get the damage boost, and then utilise it against more difficult enemies.

Charm of Shinatsuhiko

Location: Pray at Lush Peak Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Staggering an enemy prevents uninterrupted melee attacks for 6 seconds.

Why it's useful: With this Charm, breaking an enemy's guard basically lets you go crazy for 6 seconds. This is more than enough time to kill the foe that you just staggered without fear of being stabbed in the back by one of his friends. This Charm becomes very powerful when used alongside Gosaku's Armor.

Charm of Susanoo

Location: Pray at Stone Dragon Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Staggered enemies have a 30% chance to be knocked down.

Why it's useful: When an enemy is knocked down, Jin can perform a one-kit kill on them. As such, this Charm lets you make short work of even the toughest Mongol. The 30% chance isn't amazing, but it'll still trigger at least once during bigger fights.

Charm of Izanagi

Location: Pray at Winding Mountain Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Landing a headshot has a 40% chance to return an arrow.

Why it's useful: Jin can only carry a certain amount of arrows, and if you're a proficient archer, you can find yourself running out of ammo fairly quickly during larger battles. With this Charm, you have a decent chance at recovering your arrows automatically. Headshots are a great way to bring down tougher foes, so this Charm is well worth considering. It also pairs perfectly with Tadayori's Armor.

Charm of Izanami

Location: Pray at Marsh Rock Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Iron Will now revives you at 50% of your maximum health.

Why it's useful: The Iron Will technique lets you spend Resolve in order to revive after Jin has been struck down by his enemies. More experienced players may not get a lot of use out of this Charm, but restoring more health upon your revival can be a huge help if you're struggling to win a particular fight.

Charm of Mizu-no-Kami

Location: Pray at Spring Falls Shrine in Act 1.

What it does: Parries, Perfect Parries, and Perfect Dodges are easier to perform.

Why it's useful: Perfect Parries in particular can be difficult to pull off until you're familiar with the attacks of your enemies. This Charm makes it easier to get the timing right, and that can sometimes mean the difference between victory and defeat. This is arguably one of the best Charms in the game for beginners or intermediate players, although experienced players may not need the extra help.

Charm of Ikazuchi-no-Kami

Location: Pray at Crane Mountain Shrine in Act 3.

What it does: Perks and abilities that Terrify are 25% more likely to occur.

Why it's useful: Terrified enemies flee from combat, and this Charm's 25% bonus chance to Terrify can make some perks incredibly potent to the point where almost every other enemy will run rather than fight. This Charm is especially effective when used alongside Ghost Armor.

Charm of Incineration

Location: A reward for reaching the Legend Rank 'The Raging Storm'.

What it does: Enemies struck by Black Powder Bombs catch on fire and deal Burn damage to nearby foes.

Why it's useful: This Charm turns your Black Powder Bombs into extremely effective incendiary grenades. Detonate one of your bombs amongst a cluster of foes and you can take out whole groups of enemies without even drawing your blade. Against weaker enemies, it could almost be considered cheating.

Charm of Hoori-no-Mikoto

Location: Pray at Turtle Rock Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Remain hidden when Assassinating enemies from grass.

Why it's useful: Don't you just hate it when you're stabbing someone to death in long grass and you're immediately spotted by all his friends? Well with this Charm, you don't have to worry. All kills that you make while shrouded in long grass will remain stealthy. For those who enjoy stealthy styles of play, this Charm can make your life a lot easier.

Charm of Tsukuyomi

Loccation: Pray at Scarlet Rock Shrine in Act 2.

What it does: Assassinated enemies drop additional ammo or supplies.

Why it's useful: When you're sneaking and stabbing your way through a Mongol warcamp, running out of Ghost Weapons and other tools can be a real pain. But with this Charm, you scavenge a surprising amount of additional resources every time you assassinate an enemy. It's not one of the best Charms on this list, but it can still be useful when you're trying to bring down a large enemy base as quietly as possible.

Charm of Toxic Demise

Location: A reward for reaching the Legend Rank 'The Phantom Samurai'.

What it does: Wind Chimes release poison vapours that kill enemies who pick them up.

Why it's useful: This is a devilishly sneaky Charm that transforms simple Wind Chimes into tools of mass destruction. Throwing a Wind Chime makes enemies move from their position and check out the disturbance. This Charm means that you don't even have to worry about assassinating your unsuspecting victim, because the poison will do the job for you. A great pick for stealthy players.

Charm of Inari

Location: Pray at Arrow Peak Shrine in Act 1.

What it does: Increases supplies, predator hides, bamboo, and yew wood gained from collecting.

Why it's useful: Although it has no use in combat, this Charm is fantastic if you're on the hunt for materials when it comes to upgrading your weapons or armour. It works well when paired with the Traveller's Attire armour set.

Charm of Amaterasu

Location: Pray at Golden Summit Shrine in Act 1.

What it does: Killing enemies restores a Moderate amount of health.

Why it's useful: This is arguably one of the most useful Charms in the entire game. More often than not, Jin will have to face off against groups of enemies, and having a significant chunk your health restored every time you kill a foe can make Jin a near unstoppable force. Perfect for long battles or assaults on Mongol war camps.

Charm of Unseen Respite

Location: Complete Lady Masako's Tale 'A Mother's Peace'

What it does: Smoke Bombs restore 25% of your health.

Why it's useful: This charm essentially transform Smoke Bombs into healing potions. Smoke Bombs are already great for putting some distance between you and your enemies while you either make your escape or regain your composure, but having them also heal your wounds can be a lifesaver during difficult fights.

Charm of Uneven Standing

Location: A reward for reaching the Legend rank 'The Ghost of Tsushima'.

What it does: Sticky Bombs knock down all affected targets, leaving them vulnerable for longer.

Why it's useful: Sticky Bombs are already deadly tools, and this Charm just makes them even better. With this Charm equipped, your Sticky Bombs knock enemies down, opening them up to instant kills. A truly devastating Charm when used correctly.

Ghost of Tsushima Best New Game+ Charms

With update 1.12, Ghost of Tsushima has a New Game+ mode, which lets you replay Jin's adventure with all of your skills, charms, armour, and cosmetics intact.

New Game+ features a range of new Charms that cannot be found in a first playthrough. These Charms can be purchased from a strange travelling merchant named Baku the Voiceless, who can be found in multiple locations across the map.

However, you'll need to collect a new currency called Ghost Flowers in order to buy these new Charms. You can obtain Ghost Flowers by completing quests and activities.

Below, we've listed the best New Game+ Charms that we think are worth buying from Baku.

Charm of Ghostly Fury

Location: Buy from Baku for 15 Ghost Flowers.

What it does: Instead of losing your entire Ghost Stance level when Jin is damaged, you only lose one level per hit. Ghost Stance also lets you kill one additional foe with this Charm equipped.

Why it's useful: Charm of Ghostly Fury is incredibly powerful — it's arguably one of the absolute best Charms in the game, and it's probably a good thing that it's locked behind New Game+. Ghost Stance is Jin's deadliest technique, but charging it up requires patience and practice. With this Charm, you don't have to worry about losing your entire Ghost Stance level if you get hit, which makes the whole process far less demanding. And being able to slaughter one additional enemy with Ghost Stance is just overkill.

Charm of Heavenly Rebuke

Location: Buy from Baku for 25 Ghost Flowers.

What it does: When you use Heavenly Strike, there's a chance that lightning will hit a nearby enemy.

Why it's useful: Heavenly Strike is already a great attack for finishing off a stubborn opponent or cracking open a strong defence, and Charm of Heavenly Rebuke makes it even better. The lightning strike hits more often than you might think. and it destroys any foe unlucky enough to be caught by the blast. Plus, it looks really cool.

Charm of Blazing Flame

Location: Buy from Baku for 25 Ghost Flowers.

What it does: Way of the Flame deals more damage, and nearby enemies can catch fire if you hit with strong attacks.

Why it's useful: If you thought Way of the Flame was a little underwhelming, this Charm could change your mind. The spreading flames can make very short work of large enemy groups, and the additional damage is significant. Deadly when used right.

Charm of Canine Recruitment

Location: Buy from Baku for 25 Ghost Flowers.

What it does: Lets you tame enemy guard dogs, which will then fight alongside you.

Why it's useful: Jin is so often a solitary warrior, but this Charm is great for when you fancy some company. Simply find an enemy guard dog and Jin will be able to tame it. The dog will then follow you around and help you fight against your foes. It's great fun, although actually finding a dog can be difficult.
