Ikumi Nakamura PlayStation PS4 1

Ex-Ghostwire: Tokyo creative director Ikumi Nakamura captured the attention (and hearts) of gamers around the world when she revealed Tango Gameworks’ next project at E3 2018 earlier in the year. Unfortunately, she’s since parted ways with the Tokyo-based studio, and fans are hoping that she may have a future with Sony’s Worldwide Studios.

The affable developer – who’s worked on stone-cold classics such as Bayonetta, Okami, and The Evil Within – currently considers herself freelance, but it’s clear she’s struck up a fledgling friendship with some of PlayStation’s most recognisable faces. Recently, for example, she was photographed having dinner with Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. (We’re fairly sure the Bloodborne references are just cruel teases.)

She’s also been spotted hanging out with PlayStation mascot Toro Inoue at Japan Studio’s main offices in Tokyo:

And earlier in the year, she spent some time at Sony Santa Monica chilling with God of War director Cory Barlog:

This naturally led to lots of speculation online, which culminated with Nakamura jokingly submitting candidacy for the role of Worldwide Studios president following the departure of Shawn Layden earlier in the month:

It’s clear that Nakamura, along with some of the executives at Sony, is having fun teasing its fanbase. But realistically, could she hold a role at Worldwide Studios? Clearly she’s a talented director, and given her track record, some fans feel she may be a fit for revamping Japan Studio’s underrated Siren series. Incredibly, it seems she’s already familiar with the franchise:

Stranger things have happened, eh?
