PS4 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 Console 1

Sony’s certainly had the right intentions with its 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 giveaway in the UK, but things haven’t quite gone according to plan. The brilliant PlayStation ’94 shop was more or less limited to London dwellers, while the online purchase process that’s still ongoing hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing, due to website crashes and other minor hiccups.

Of course, the biggest irritation of all is that despite the platform holder’s best attempts, there are currently dozens of these limited edition consoles up for sale on eBay at extortionate fees. The manufacturer obviously can’t do anything about this, but perhaps a less limited run would have prevented these issues from occurring, and enabled everyone to score a machine.

Either way, if you’re not willing to jump through hoops and try your luck on auction sites, there is another way to nab a device. The manufacturer’s ongoing multiplayer competition has a couple of ‘Special Challenges’, with the best entries landing one of the sought after systems. Current tasks pertain to Destiny, with Far Cry 4 the next title in rotation.

At the moment, all you need to do to be in with a chance is score a sweet five plus killstreak in Bungie’s first-person shooter, or complete the Devil’s Lair Strike in less than ten minutes. Capture your video using the share button, and then upload it to YouTube with the title ‘#PS4MPC’. You’ll need to put the name of the challenge that you’re attempting in the description of the clip, as well as your PSN username.

There are tons of other prizes up for grabs as well – including DualShock 4 controllers, PlayStation Plus subscriptions, and a 55-inch Bravia television – but it’s the Special Challenges that you'll need to be paying attention to if you want to score a 20th Anniversary PS4 console for free.
