Are you into fighting games? Can you string together combos like nobody's business or pull of an Super Special Hadoken? Then discuss away here, feel free to discuss what fighting games you enjoy what you have been playing etc. Any fighting game can be talked about here whether it's Street Fighter, Killer Instinct or Smash Bros talk away.

The past few days I have been hooked on Soul Caliber II on the Gamecube. I started playing it again after I went over to my friends house and we played the HD version on his 360. Well after that I got the itch so I decided to hook up my Wii and play some SC. To my horror my original file on the memory card was gone (I had everything unlocked) after a bit of disappointment I figured oh well guess I will just unlock everything again. Now to be Lear it's been about 5 years since I played it so unlocking everything again has been really fun, I can't put the game down lol. I forgot how good this game was. I tried the later Soul Calibers but I don't know they just don't grab me like 2 did.

Some of my other favorite fighting games are

Tekken 3 and Tag Tournament 2
Street Fighter II
Killer Instinct (SNES)
Fatal Fury Special

I am sure I have others but I will list them as I think of them.

I enjoyed playing through the story of Mortal Kombat 9.

I suck at fighting games but I like them... I'm currently playing DOA5 Last Round, my favorite fighting game ever was probably Rival Schools in Arcades

@Tasuki I got invited to a soul calibur 2 tournament in North London when I was in the last year of uni, got battered by the semi pros but it was good fun. I used Ivy, Tali and Raphael. Mastered all 3 and anyone who went mitsurugi, voldo, lizard or cervantes I had the timing Down to parry or sidestep every attack, there wasn't much of a structure and I went out winning four of the six battles after winning the last 3 in a row. I was miffed and I'm sure others went through with lower wins pfffft. Boss game its forward or back and block (red button perfect placement) to parry rather than the downwards button on xbox or ps2 (a and x) hardest person to parry for me was another Ivy or the nunchuck guy what was his name? Hated him. But once you can parry and roll with mid low horizontal attacks you can beat almost anyone.

@themcnoisy Yeah I only played SCII on the Gamecube and Xbox and if you count the HD version Xbox 360. I prefer the Gamecube controller over the 2 Xbox controllers for SC II. Also I thought the game ran and looked better on Gamecube then the other two systems.

As for characters my best is Talim with the double crescent blades. I also like Cervantes look but I sucked with him lol. For some reason I just find that I am better at Namco fighting games. Not sure if it's cause their controls or characters or what but I can do better at Tekken and Soul Caliber then I can at Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.

Definitely @Tasuki I love sf2 as you know but when it came to sc2 I was pretty unbeatable. Pity that sc3 and 4 went with different ccontrol schemes for my favourite characters. Just imagine changing ryus haduken?

I've always enjoyed fighting games even if I'm not good at them. My favorite is Tekken (Which is also the only one I'm skilled at), but I also enjoy Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and recently Injustice. Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive I have interest in, and I really want to play Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

I think my favorite game was Tekken 5. It was the first serious fighter I owned, and it was the first in the series with customization (I hadn't heard of Soul Calibur at that point, so it was cool to me), and had arcade versions of the first three games, so it was pretty cool to play. I would say Tag 2, but the AI is ridiculous to the point where I only play online, which is kinda weird.

Despite all this, I can never really get into the tournament scene. I actually find it kinda dull at times, seeing the same people and characters win. I'm content being an online warrior.

@DerMeister Yeah I am not good at them either so I know how you feel. Like I said before I am only really good at Tekken games.

I will also say Injustice was a great game as well.

Honestly I could never get into that game. My friends were all about that game in the late 90s. I would try to play it and just get my butt handed to me lol. Usually when we were at an Arcade I would play against them in that get my butt kicked then we would go play Tekken which I would kick theirs.

Seems like a perfect topic to ask a question which has been bugging me for a while! I'm not a huge fun of fighting games, but I enjoy some mindless violence once in a while, so was thinking of getting one fighting game for ps4... which one would you recommened more for casuals (especially local co-op)? Mortal Kombat X or Street Fighter IV? or something else?
I'd be more than fine with Super Smash Bros, which is a fantastic games, but my Wii U died unfortunatelly

@Mateq if some fanservice does not bother you I will recommend Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, it's the most accessible fighting game I've played.

@mateq That's actually a pretty good question. lol

They're both pretty friendly to casuals. Although I'd probably recommend MKX due to content alone. It's Mortal Kombat. It's practically "Mindless Violence: The Game". In all seriousness though, it seems like the better option right now, seeing as USF4 on PS4 launched not up to snuff.

@mateq. Well since your Wii U died I am not sure. If you get your Wii U fixed I suggest Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on Wii U but since that's out of the question...

On PS4 if you are a DC fan or just a comic fan in general I suggest Injustice God's Among Us. If you didn't grab it for free a few months ago you can find it really cheap nowadays probably 20 dollars. It's made by the same studio that did Mortal Kombat so it's done really well. Their is lots to do single player wise and then you have offline and online co-op as well.

While MK is good from what I have read it is still up there in price and we'll USFIV is a mess right now so if your looking for a good fighting game without spending alot of money go Injustice.

Unfortunatelly, when I send my broken gamepad to Nintendo they wanted 85 pounds for the fix, even though the console was still on warranty! Also, I don't know where did they get that price from, it seems crazy as you can pretty much buy a new Wii U for just 30 pounds more. Luckily Amazon gave me a full refund for it, for which I got myself PS4

Thanks for all the answers! I think I'll go with Mortal Kombat X, I used to play it ages ago in arcades so it is a bit of a nostalgia I've just heard that Street Fighter is a "master" of fighting games but unfortunatelly never played a single entry
