@BAMozzy @JMills in their opening post seems to be looking for people who are thinking of switching from PlayStation to Xbox mainly because of Bethesda's upcoming game. I think if you're searching for more people in that similar position, you'd expect to find them here.

I think JMills wasn't really looking for advice what platform is the best. They seem to have made up their mind to not want to miss out on Starfield.

I hope Starfield becomes a big hit, so that it gives Xbox that much needed boost. Also, selfishly, once I buy an Xbox I hope it has at least a dozen of essential games for me.

That's kind of how I'm going about it. Playing on my PlayStation until Xbox becomes good enough of a deal.

@Kidfried My point was that asking on a Playstation site may not have the 'information' or experience to help and some are extremely anti-Xbox too.

I know the OP was really interested in Starfield - which is why in my initial post I went on to explain the 'Xbox Ecosystem' and that they don't have to 'commit' to a $500 console just to play a single game on the day it launches as the game itself isn't exclusive to the Console and can be played on a whole range of devices. They 'could' sub to Game Pass on a device they already have for a month or two, play the game and 'decide' if they would prefer to play it on 'Hardware' and if so, at what 'tier' of Quality. Play on Cloud until maybe the Black Friday sales to decide. Maybe they discover that Xbox has more reasons to buy for them than just 'Starfield' or decide that it isn't worth it for them to play 'just' Starfield.

Point is, they don't have to 'leave' Playstation to play Starfield as they probably have a 'device' already that they could use to 'play' on, don't need to buy a 'Series' Xbox to play Starfield etc and could opt to 'try' it before deciding whether or not they would prefer to play at a 'higher' quality tier...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@JMills I bought a series x after all the buzz about gamepass. It made sense to me.

I haven't regretted it. Great console, literally thousands of games and it seems cheaper than PlayStation for deals and such. You also get MS rewards which unfortunately has been scaled back, although you can still earn around a tenner a month!

There are a few good exclusive games such as Forza, Flight simulator, age of empires 2 etc. Also the Halo MCC.

I do miss all the PlayStation games of course. But having owned a ps4 then a ps5. I wanted a change. PlayStation is great and breaking down where both xbox and PS are headed, there isn't much difference tbh. Will you miss Spiderman 2 and have fomo on the next big PS game? Of course, I haven't got access to baldurs gate 3 as an example. That sucks. So instead I've downloaded Dragon age, just finished Quake 2 and am still playing forza.

I have considered jumping over to PC. It makes sense, although I still get ptsd on thinking about all the drivers, effort and crazy glitches I had 25 years ago.

The impending release of Starfield is definitely the closest I’ve been to considering an Xbox for a long time... still not enough for me personally though. The last time being the original Mass Effect on 360… when I did pick one up. At that time though Mass Effect was merely the straw that broke the camel’s back, having already been somewhat tempted by Halo 3, Bioshock, Fable 2 and Gears of War.

The draw is still no way near that period in 2007 though and Bethesda games don’t appeal to me like they did back in the late noughties either. Still, I always keep tabs on what’s going on with Xbox so a few more premier titles within quick succession could be all it needs… for me at least.

**** DLC!

JMills

@themcnoisy I genuinely appreciate the info! I’m 100% a console player, and I’m feeling like now is time for a change also. You can almost, kind of, somewhat, sort of find a game that’s similar to any exclusive between one console and the another (kind of).

The only things I’d miss I’d if Bloodborne 2 dropped 🫨.

Judging by the number of Xbox peeps on this site these days it seems to me that quite a few are thinking of joining PlayStation.

Update for any who care! I saved up and bought a series x and was blessed with a 3 month Game Pass (thanks mom 😅). Starfield is pretty good. My only grip is it’s too easy to fast travel and get from planet to planet/place to place. In Skyrim, you had to walk and discover a place prior to fast traveling to it so you really felt in the game world. Here is select planet, hit A to land, hit X to confirm and “boom” you’re there. I feel like it does need that No Man’s Sky load less space to planet travel.

What I really like about it (and Skyrim) is you get sucked in to a “little” fetch quest you just happen to over hear and it becomes this HUGE adventure that’s basically a full game on its own, and you end up with a new shiny starship 🤣🤣🤣 and it’s like “Dang. I thought I was just delivering a package down to another NPC”.

My biggest let down is the Xbox app and game pass app. Not user friendly or as clean as the PS App. But, oh well. First world problems, am I right?

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on this post. It was a lot of fun reading your comments and hopefully with the release of Bloodborne 2 on the PS 6 I’ll be right back into the PlayStation universe.

@JMills I hope you enjoy your new console and Starfield, the fast travel system does seem a little perplexing. I remember playing Elite many moons ago and to travel from planet orbit to planet orbit you would press a key to go into hyperspace and your hyperspace journey could be interrupted at any time by an event (attack etc..). Shame that that wasn't the approach taken here, imagine warping and then coming across a derelict craft...permission to come abroad? Why not!

See you for Bloodborne 2 : Father Gasgoigne strikes back.
