@FullbringIchigo They did used to be quite terrible, I agree. Was your example before their near-bankruptcy for a couple years in a row? Because I sense that there's been a company-wide effort to shape up and fly right ever since, and they're only just starting to shake off that reputation.

@RogerRoger it was yes but i'm still not going to use them again, i only get burnt once

@FullbringIchigo Oh, absolutely. I wasn't advocating you try them again. Each branch will be different anyway, regardless of any central policy, so it isn't worth the risk.

I would honestly rather that video games had no high street presence rather than GAME being their only presence. My local GAMEs have been really bad, their online store is even worse. It gives it a bad name. Generally people I know who have worked there, started off gamers but lost all their passion for it from their various corporate and commercial responsibilities.
I do feel like high streets are going to end up hosting mainly services like barbers, hairdressers, some banks, pawn shops etc. Supermarkets that don't do delivery like Lidl and convenience supermarkets like Tesco express will remain. Primark will stay. Charity shops will stick around. Also independent stores in smaller towns where somebody had a passion, like a comic store, independent game store or vape shop.
Chains of stores that sell comics and games are just too big to provide the bespoke service that you need to go to a high street store over shopping online.
That being said, I'd prefer if there were more HMVs as I like to choose a blu ray that has an undamaged slip cover. And others have said there are other reasons to shop in store (like small letterboxes and missed launch dates) but for me, on games specifically, I'd rather shop online.
On PS4 I buy my games from it's own digital storefront (though I bought the system & VR set from Walmart online).
On Switch I buy mostly from Walmart online (used to be Amazon, but Walmart offers free 2 day shipping with no subscription required, so I switched), with the ocassional import from Amazon Japan.
I haven't been in a GAME shop for years as it's often overpriced. I do occasionally buy off them online as they're often the only ones who get special editions.
Most physical editions are bought from Amazon but I am going more and more to the PS Store for reasons I've mentioned here before; I rarely buy games on day one so pick them up on sale, and as my PS4 sometimes does the random disc eject thing it stops me from being kicked from my game.
I'm gutted to here you've all had a bad experience of game but tbh it's not exactly surprising or unfamiliar I can only talk for my local one whose staff are super but they are overpriced and behind the times
@QualityGeezer Most of the time is not the case of only saving a fiver, it can be a more drastic saving especially if you shop around online. Add that up throughout the year and your probably looking at the cost of a new game. But not from GAME, lol. And even 2nd hand stuff there are not as good as CEX I find. I also dislike there practice of trying to sell things like disc insurance, not sure if they still do that though. It comes across as really predatory and really doesn't sit right with me.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@Thrillho do you have a OG model PS4 because that happened to me too and i found it's because dust builds up under the button that you can't clean out BUT i found a way to do it
just under the button on the bottom of the system is one of the PS4's rubber feet, pull that out and get a small soft bristle paint brush put it through the hole and flick the brush towards the button and it will clean out the dust, not had the issue since
now i clean my PS4 weekly but when i did this there was a huge cloud of dust that came out and given that it's a touch sensitive button the dust can build up to a point where it activates the button through pressure
just give it a try and see if it helps

I buy my games from 2 places. One online-retailer and one physical shop (biggest in my country).
I have 20% discount on ALL games in both shops so I am happy!
@FullbringIchigo I’ve always been a bit loathe to pull the rubber foot off but have heard that’s one solution.
I tend to go for unplugging the console and tightening the screw underneath that can be used to manually eject discs which improves things for a while.
@QualityGeezer I am from Bulgaria. I do not buy digital games except for 2 games - Castlevania Collection and Bloodstained Curse of the Moon.
Both ways that I buy games are given to me from companies I worked for
I have a club card for the physical retailer (a chain of gaming shops) called Pulsar.
And the other one is online-only retailer called Ozone for which I have a corporate account with the same discount as the card. The account is given to me by my current company/job.
Event after 5 years not working for my first company I still use the club card
