Just joined pushsquare seeking help so here goes. My ps4 I got second hand few years ago and it has been a problem child on and off, now it is not taking discs at all. I have tried all the reset methods still nothing, I try leave game half way in try force it accept but nothing. Iv tried putting it on both sides doing all the resets and unplugs still nothing. I unscrewed and cleaned the whole unit inclu the disc tray taking it out, still F all.

Before I do buy and change new disc drive tray, can someone give me the idiot lesson on how this thing can cause so many problems if you can just swap it out easily?

Is there anything else I can try? I heard about a rubber piece that helps with the disc taking and ejection. I can confirm as well I have that "blue light of death" for awhile.
I know complete jack all about ps4 I had use video just find out how to open it up

@Melmelster Can't help you with PS4, I'm afraid, but my original PS3's auto-loading disc tray gave up the ghost once and refused to accept discs, in a situation that sounds almost identical to yours. I gave it to a friend who has technical skill and he fixed it, but he never told me how, and it was a temporary fix that only lasted about six months, by which point I'd saved up enough for a new console.

If you're also getting a Blue Light of Death issue, I'm afraid it sounds like there's a core problem with your console. Unless somebody with better technical know-how can jump in and assist, you may have to consider getting a new PS4.

@RogerRoger damn ;(... So its pretty much dying near death then? I hear people saying about going digital, does this mean buying the game on PS store instead of a disc? Its really upsetting cos I was doing my proud mode (hard) on kh 1.5 for platinum. Before all this happens

@Melmelster No, it just sounds like a fault with your particular disc drive. A properly-functioning disc drive should give you no issues; I still buy most of my games on Blu-Ray and (fingers crossed) haven't had a problem with either my base PS4 or my PS4 Pro.

Digital gives you the comfort of not having to rely on a disc, but buying from the PS Store can sometimes be incredibly expensive when the game you want isn't included in the current sale.

If you do get a new console, remember to copy your save files to a USB stick (or upload them to your PS Plus account, if you're a member) before making the change. Have a look on Google for the exact steps; I'm afraid I can't quite recall them at the moment, and I'm away from my PS4. Once you've re-installed Kingdom Hearts on your new console, you should be able to transfer your save file over and pick up right where you left off.

@RogerRoger hey thanks for replying again and thank you for all your advice and support. After much deliberation and thinking stuff going on in my brain as king Julian would say I'm gonna just buy new ps4 with 3 year warranty and just cry about that instead lol.

You said games can be expensive on ps store you were not joking in slightest, kh 1.5 2.5 remix in Argos £18 odd, cex I brought from £32 second hand, PS store £39.99 lmfao why does it cost more if instead your saving money printing millions of discs to burn the game on? Luckily I was only at wonderland hard mode the 2nd world just 2hrs 30mins so not a massive loss I guess if can't be bothered to find my old USB and I don't keep saved data or games when iv platinum them or just given up

@Melmelster My pleasure. It sounds like the safest option, for sure. Just remember in future that if your new console develops a fault, you'll instantly void the warranty if you open it up to have a tinker yourself (I only mention this because earlier, you mentioned unscrewing and cleaning the unit; perfectly fine with a used console, but dangerous when you may have to count on that warranty).

You'll have to ask Sony why the PS Store is so expensive. I guess you're paying for the direct convenience of it all, in some ways. They are brilliant at having near-constant sales on, and sometimes the savings can be quite generous, but that obviously means waiting for the game you're looking for to come around. It can often be a long wait, but other times they'll surprise everybody by quickly discounting relatively-new, Triple-A games. Push Square's front page does a good job of highlighting the latest sales, so keep an eye out where possible.

The PS Store cost more because Sony is afraid if they make digital games too cheap it will upset retail. The last thing they want is Wal-Mart, Amazon ect to get mad and stop selling their games.

That said digital is without a doubt the future and digital prices are going to get more competitive with retail in time.

@Splat Good point well made, thanks; I hadn't considered the wider picture.
