Yeah I played the DLC mission and while it was fine I would we get more substantial DLC like The Missing Link but I just hope we get more Deus Ex without waiting 5 more years.

@Lurker: But who outside of those who follow gaming websites really even knew or understood about the preorder nonsense? No doubt it impacted the numbers but I could ask some of my friends who are gamers but not perhaps what you'd call a hardcore gamer and they didn't even know a new Deus Ex game had been released. Seems people just weren't very excited about the prospect of a new DE game, even if it was good.

@kyleforrester87: Let's not mistake Deus Ex with Call of Duty or something. It's still to an extent a niche series, that many casual gamers (hate this term) are not really aware of.

Sales as of September 2011:

Deus Ex: 1.1 million plus
Deus Ex: Invisible War: 1.2 million plus
Deus Ex: Human Revolution: 2.18 million (now over 3 million I think)

I thought Mankind Divided had people hyped when it was annnouced but then over time it all slowly died down. Now you look at comments anywhere (deus ex forums, youtube, metacritic) and there are people hating on it for all the wrong reasons. Square-Enix really dropped the ball here , and whether it's their PR department that is to blame or someone else, the fact of the matter is people are focused on mictrotransactions and DLC items that can only be used once, instead of focusing on a really good game. That seems to be the narrative.

@Lurker: I do agree SE seem to have made mistakes - you hit the nail on the head when you said it is a niche series, though, so you can understand SE's desire to maximise revenue from it, given what I expect were fairly substantial development costs. It is, I suppose, a shame that such tactics are required, but it also sucks if some people can't look past all that to the great game inside.

@kyleforrester87: I see yout point, but on the other hand the reception and sales of Human Revolution were obviosuly good enough for them to warrant a sequel, so all Square-Enix managed to do with their machinations was to shot themselves in the foot. People are giving the game a 0 on metacritic because of this, while others are proclaiming they'll never buy another SE game again. Now this is all silly and childish, but still the overall damage to the product is done.
