I havnt used my PS4 to play blueray or dvd for quite a while now and went to pop in FROZEN or MOANA for my kids and it didnt work." Disc is unreaconizable"...same on my sons ps4. No blue ray. Dvd, streaming, games no problem. Does not recognize blue ray discs..any and all blue ray...i have re-checked my licences...what do i do? Seams kinda dumb that the company (sony) that prety close to invented blueray..would have issues with blueray..PLEASE HELP
Nope. Def not modded. Bone stock ps4 pro. Usb hard drive. All uptodate. Ive tried 5 bluyrays..all out of the box like new..frozen..moana...Endgame...rambo first blood...the wedding singer...all are blueray ..all do not work.all state disc unrecongnizable . Dvds do work just fine. No problems with games...ive been grinding destiny 2 and Wreckfest pretty hard..so i dont know
@Zondervanaxle Are the PS4 and the blurays the same region? For example if your PS4 is from North America it can only play North American DVDs and Blurays. Even though games arent region locked DVDs and Blurays are.
if i remember, playback for DVD and blu-ray had to be enabled over the internet the first time - after that you didn't need to be connected - but i can't remember if that was only for PS4's launch and later system software updates don't require that anymore.
does it play games from blu-ray? if it's not playing any blu-ray at (movies or game discs), it could be a problem with the laser (maybe dirty, or mis-aligned) - DVDs use a different wavelength (red light), and might not be affected.
Blue ray was supposed to be enabled at launch via internet...this is what i used for watching movies in our living room....ALL GAMES WORK blueray or not...ALL DVDS WORK...just no blueray movies..that worked a while ago
Ok i tried a few other bluerays this morning..it plays captain america...diehard....diehard with a vengeance...still doesnt play flozen.....i guess my ps4 has good taste..ha ha..but why would it only play select blueray and not all blueray? When everything IS this region code and HAS played on it before?
@Zondervanaxle
It could be struggling with dual layer discs. On the inner ring of the bottom of the disc, you should be able to find the disc type. BVSS are single layer discs, BVDL are dual layered.
Take it with a pinch of salt, but there's a good chance that the laser is on it's way out if it is struggling to read dual layered discs.
