Loved the gameplay, atmosphere and world. In my opinion the story sucked, I disliked both Ellie and Abby so much by the end of it I don't really care what happens to them if they ever make part 3.
Everything until TLOU2 was an auto buy from this studio, I'm gonna be honest it didn't speak to me. The product placement was cringe. I dunno it's a first impression so alot can change.
I'm going to be honest and also say I'm very tired of the masculine women trope at this point, Nadine, Ellie (by the end of TLOU2) and Abbey I couldn't stand them I hope this new character has some charisma. Compare this character to Ciri at least as a first impression and it's no contest for me.
Maybe I'm not the target audience, and that's fine I'm sure it will be at the very least a good game.
I was semi interested in this until I saw FTP. I don't know, I just prefer to pay for a game and play it, no problem paying for expansion packs and so but the FTP model turns me off of 90% of games immediately.
Yeah it needs to be a 10/10 masterpiece of a game to warrent me spending infinite time and money on a Live Servce. If they don't make a Fortnite, World of Warcraft level game I simply won't play it. Didn't touch Helldivers or Concord unlikely, won't touch Fairgames either.
I prefer games with an ending, that don't have cash shops that's basically the polar opposite to Live Service.
It looked decent but I also never picked it up, I have not bought many games this year my backlog is so huge I am on a roll playing through stuff I got in sales years ago. I will probably go on a shopping spree during the January Sales of Black Friday, as I do every year ...
The Industry has trained me to wait a year to get the patched version of a game at half the price or less. You reap what you sow.
I always admired Sniper Elite from a distance but it wasn't really for me, though it was obvious that Rebellion is a talented developer. This looks much more interesting to me, so I'm probably going to give it a go.
I have not played it, I had to force my way through Miles Morales it just felt off to me, and I hear Spider Man 2 is much the same. I think these comic book games are just not for me, I may pick it up if it ever goes into deep discount.
@J2theEzzo Don't get me wrong though I prefer the old model of doing things. I'm not a fan of FTP, most of them are horrible, predatory games where the entire game is designed to around the shop first. The Gacha games, and games with PTW like the hellscape that is mobile. If that stuff ever becomes the norm on console I'm out. I was an avid Diablo player but D4 is the last one I buy, they have totally soured me with their cash shop antics in a full priced game. By the way, want to continue the story? Pay another €50, we'll refresh the cash shop with a load of new cool armour you can buy while you are at it. So sick of companies like Blizzard taking the piss.
I guess that's why I give Fortnite a break, it's free, the battlepass has enough coins to buy the next battle pass, there's no pay to win, and it's a well designed game and the content updates / expansions are free. If you are going to do free to play this is how you should do it.
@J2theEzzo I was the same, my son plays it and to be honest the battle royale no build mode is alot of fun.
My son is 9 and English is his second language, there are hardly any games translated into my native language so any games with alot of reading are a no go for him. Alot of games from Sony are not kid friendly, he played and loved Astrobot but that game is over in 25 hours. When is the next kid friendly platformer coming, 3 years time? Fortnite is updated regularly, there are custom game modes for almost anything it's not hard to see why kids love it and in it's defense it is a fluid, well built game.
I hope when he is older and has a better handle on the English Language I can broaden his horizons, but he is the next generation and to be honest it's one of the better options for them, at least he's not playing Roblox.
My Son plays Roblox much to my dismay, he's 9. I don't want to ban him from playing it, because alot of his friends play it but I can't stand it. It's full of stolen assets from other companies I have no idea how they have not been sued into oblivion. I will play a few round of Fortnite with him, but I refuse to install this trash on my console.
Luckily as time has gone by, because the quality of the games is usually so bad he plays it rarely. I have tried to explain to him that it's a platform that is full of low effort garbage who's main goal is to get you to spend. If he wants a new experience he is better off buying an actual game than wasting his money here.
@Matroska Mass Effect's gameplay is pretty lackluster if you ask me, all 3 of them. I did enjoy them but for me those games were carried by the choices you made, the story, world and characters. The same system seems to be here in Veilguard, the debuff / detonator I was not a fan of it ME, hopefully it's implemented better in Veilguard.
I get what you mean about BG1 but it doesn't really feel like a realtime game to me, if you compare it to Diablo they are very different. In Diablo you are clearing screens of enemies by spamming 1 or 2 abilities. In BG if you play without pausing you are not going to get very far.
@ShadowofSparta Don't get me wrong, I feel the identity politics are being pushed in some games, like AC Shadows. But you are correct I don't think that applies here. It's turned into a bit of a Witch (Or Woke) Hunt
Doubt this has much to do with arachnophobia, probably looking for cuts to make and this one made the most sense. I mean if you want to do them properly they probably take a alot of animation work and you can only use them in dark caves or forests.
I do wonder about this game though, I have played all the DA games and enjoyed them, though I did think Inquisition was by far the weakest.
I'm playing the original Baldur's Gate on my PS5 right now, I last played it 20 years ago. It's so good, even today, the mechanics are complex and the story and world building are amazing. Yes it's clunky and obtuse by today's standards but maybe that's why it sucks you in. There is a reason BG3 was such a success, people like deep games, the thing that worries me about Dragon Age is each iteration has tried to appeal to the mainstream, I think they will just end up with no one. If it doesn't sell well I do wonder if it's the end of Bioware, they have become something else, Larian carries the torch now.
I'm going to wait until player reviews are out before I consider Veilguard, Bioware was once an automatic buy for up until Inquisition. I don't understand why they felt the need to move away from their niche, I guess because of greed. People have been asking for a follow up to Origins since they released it and instead we get a 3rd person action game with no party control.
The Original is low key one of my favourite PS5 games. I won't be in day one because they usually add an absurd amount of DLC. But I will pick up a complete edition when the price is right.
You have to admire the staying power of this franchise. I watched Z as a kid, and I played the DBZ Kakarot game a few years back, it was alright but fighting games are not really my thing. To be honest anything topping Call of Duty makes me happy, even if it's not for me we need the diversity.
@S1ayeR74 I actually mean the developers who don't get on Gamepass. I can imagine there are a fair amount of people who will put off buying because they hope the game will eventually come to Gamepass. There are no guarantees of course, and I imagine older games get much less lucrative deals. It happens on PlayStation too of course with Extra, but there are more potential customers so it's less of a risk.
I have never subbed to Extra, but if I had I imagine I would also buy less games, I don't know what percentage of the XBOX player base is subbed to GamePass but the last numbers I could find are around 30 million (This does include PC though) vs the 7 million on Extra. Given that PS5 consoles outnumber XBOXs more than 2:1 a huge number of their players are subbed to Gamepass vs Extra. It makes sense since that is their whole push.
I think it's hard to deny that Gamepass doesn't have a negative overall impact on game sales, I mean they added an extra tier to try and offset the no doubt enormous amount of money they were going to lose on Call of Duty sales this year that says enough.
The Industry has conditioned us to buy later, better product for less money. I'm sure this isn't the only reason but if for any reason you are on the fence for any game it makes zero sense to get in early. It's taken more than a decade but I guess consumers are starting to wise up now that money is tighter for most people.
My library is fully digital since the PS3, and my son's is too. Worth noting this morning he dragged me out of bed before school because his games were not working.
I was suprised that Poppy Playtime failed to load, both of them are single player games with no online features. Obviously Fortnite and Roadblox need a connection to PSN to function.
I wanted the anniversary bundle, but it was sold out, so I settled for the Pro. I put off playing many of the games with compramised performance modes like Rebirth and Alan Wake. Looking forward it!
I held off playing Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, and Dragons Dogma 2 because of the bad image quality. There is absolutely room for more powerful hardware, if this gets rid of blurry 60 fps modes then I'm all for it. I'm done with 30 fps, it needs to die and I'm glad most console gamers now agree.
I played and Platinumed all three Dragon Age games. I can't remember what I did in Inquisition ... But as always this kind of stuff is fluff anyway it's not really going to have a massive impact on the story, it never does.
I am still on the fence about the game, I can't get the first trailer with the elf jumping out of the vale like a fortnite character out of my mind. I'll wait and see how it is received, and maybe pick it up later. Larian is a new Bioware for me, I do hope this game turns out well, but something about it feels off.

The first game is in my top 10 of all time.
Re: Archetype's Sci-fi Epic Exodus Looks Sick in PS5 Gameplay
This looks pretty neat, it's an unproven studio so hopefully they get it right first time. At this point I have more faith in this team than Bioware.

Gamepass, smaller market, Series S limitations, declining market share, juice not worth the squeeze.

Fortnite
Roadblox
What did work
Astrobot
