Problem is, Japan makes almost all the best games and also had always made most of what was appealing about PS1-3. If they continue to lose market, it's eventually going to affect their business overall, as they'll have less games and those games will be of lower quality. I'd argue we've already seen this happen to a great degree over this generation (PS4 has definitely been the most disappointing console I've owned). They need to be investing in Japan to make a decent product, if nothing else, whether Japan buys their stuff currently or not.
As far as I'm concerned, they're just being self-entitled and whining about a self-fulfilling prophecy of their own making. As it stands, PS5 is definitely something I never intend to own, which is pretty wild considering I've owned everything else Sony. I just don't see any future in PS5.
