"Microsoft lost the anti-trust case in 1998 that forced their hand regarding browser monopoly."
It helps to actually read the article you posted ...this case involved primarily the DOJ and not the FTC...this entire case was regarding MS giving away Internet Explorer for free with Windows undercutting Netscape....again nothing of this suit can apply here so I have no idea why you're bringing it up
"They were/are already being scrutinized for Actiblizz and while it will go through it's been a bumpy road."
See..you keep repeating yourself when this isn't the case...
"However, this time, whilst the commitment is not explicit, it is heavily implied that games with large fanbases on other platforms will continue to be on those platforms."
Um...no it isn't...and even that was the case the only game that has a large community on other "platforms" from Activision is COD which they've pretty much implied would stay multiplat at least for the foreseeable future
Do World of Warcraft/Hearthstone/Starcraft have large communities on other platforms? No..they have communities on PC/Mobile...does that mean Starcraft 3 would be multiplatform if they made it?
Diablo? We know Diablo 4 is a lock for multiplatform because its already been announced as has Overwatch 2, does not apply to future games in the series
"Without doubt, the circumstances are different this time"
Not really....the biggest difference between ActiBlizz and Bethesda is that ActiBlizz has massive properties like COD and Candy Crush which aren't fundamentally going to change. COD being multiplatform does not in any way shape or form indicate other games being multiplatform
Right now what you're doing is called "mental gymnastics" they clearly said today that brand new games would be exclusive but somehow you're tying this back to Call of Duty which we've already established will likely stay multiplat
So I have no idea where you're going with this.....
@GADG3Tx87 Not really....there were some lawsuits that were settled like Netscape in 2001 but the FTC has never stopped MS from buying another company.
In fact the FTC rarely ever stops a merger, they didn't stop Fox/Disney but Disney had to sell off Fox Sports because they already owned ESPN
They did stop Nvidia/Arm but that's because that was actually a major threat and would of given Nvidia control of 90% of the chip market
Neither applies here, and no the FTC has never had doubts, you've just had political grifters and losers like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Pochohantas Warren grand standing asking the FTC to scrutinize it as if they actually give a crap, they don't.
The deal is absolutely going to go through and if MS wants to make COD exclusive, they'll make it exclusive. Of course that would be terrible from a business and PR standpoint so they clearly won't do that but they'll absolutely us COD as leverage, maybe they'll tell Sony to ease off the third party money hatting.
@Fiendish-Beaver
" Microsoft can have its cake and eat it."
So can Sony...so can Nintendo...where is Spiderman on Xbox and where is Zelda on Playstation?
All 3 of these guys recognize the value of exclusive content...
" If he says the games will be multi-platform, I tend to believe him"
The problem is he (nor anyone at MS) have ever said this. Matt Booty says he doesn't want to split up communities...yes multiplayer communities. There's no doubt COD will continue on Playstation but considering that Elder Scrolls 6 is to be exclusive then logic dictates that games like a new Crash or Spyro, or the new Blizzard IP, or Diablo 5 whenver it comes out would be Xbox/PC/Game Pass exclusive
@GADG3Tx87 Bud you're giving the FTC way too much credit lmao as if they give a crap about video games....the only thing they care about is market protection
Even if MS bought Embracer Group and made their games exclusive they still wouldn't control 20% of the market even with Bethesda and Activision
