@themcnoisy To my mind one possible major problem with Virtual reality is will long term use have an adverse affect on ones health, and another would be whether long term use would impact on family life, other concerns such as price, games, convenience etc although not irrelevant are not game breakers either, Sony, Facebook, Samsung, Google, Htc, even Apple it seems are into Vr and they're going to shove it down our throats through ads on tv, magazines and the internet, in 9 months time everyman and his dog will be aware of this "new and amazing medium" and I believe it will sell by the bucketload. A vast number of people in the western world have money to spend, what better way to unload it than on the next must have gadget. These companys aren't going to appeal to just you and me "the gamer" we are just the tip of the iceberg, they're. aiming for everyone. Whether Virtual reality is just a fad and dies after a couple of years I don't know, but "Hey who cares" just hang on and enjoy the ride..
Facebook paid $2billion for Oculus rift, Sony, Htc vive and many more companys are investing probably hundreds of millions of dollars in the development of virtual reality, hundreds of studios both large and small are formulating games and experiences for Vr, Every single person I have seen on the internet who has experienced Virtual reality seems to use the same phrase "It's mind blowing" and asked if they're going to get it 99% say yes, but according to this site, if it's got wires coming out of it (which it has) it'll fail, if it's more than $200 (which it will be) it'll fail, if it's not got a 20hr AAA game (which it probably won't have) it'll fail, or I don't like it so it'll fail. U say and believe whatever floats your boat I'm getting mine day one
I think Sony are making a huge mistake by supporting this title, inasmuch as this could be the very last game I, and many other playstation owners ever buy. Setting off into the sunset/s, exploring the Universe visiting Planets discovering new lifeforms, and wandering through Forests, Oceans, Mountains and also most likely some very hostile environments, Never know might even find the meaning of life..... or better still the fountain of youth. I accept there will be an element of repetition in this style of game, but with a trillion + planets I'm also sure there will also be a significant amount of diversity, if your prepared to look for it. Therein lies the hook, if you don't go down there you will never Know. I believe there are basically two scenario's for this game , (1) You will be playing this till the cows come home,Thousands of hours and years down the road you will still be visiting the universe of No mans sky, not knowing what you're going to find on that distant blue planet....or (2) You pick it up play it for 3-4 hours become totally bored and never play it again.I think what you will get from this game will be not so much a reflection of the game but more of a reflection of you as a gamer. If it's as good as it seems I think I'm going to enjoy it.
@SonyInfinity I agree, 2 move controllers, ps camera and headset with Demo disc £330, seems about right. Unlike some I don't think you need 20hr AAA games, just putting yourself in a VR world will be exhilarating in itself, walking on the the ocean floor or Mars, visitng Cities, Musuems, Cathedrals, damn! the list is endless, all as though you are actually there. Oh' and games, Rapture, Don't starve, Journey, Flower etc... games i am sure would have had far more impact had I played them in VR. No doubt AAA games will come to Psvr but I certainly don't think it will sink or swim if they are few and far between.. Virtual reality is for everyone not just gamers
I am getting this day one if its £300 or less, (app 3-4 days work here in UK or Western Europe). I want this to share with my family and friends, most every internet video i have seen demonstrating VR has someone trying to convey how amazing this technology is and not just for playing games. Whether it's a success or not I don't care, I have a PS4 and want to sit in the comfort of my own home and experience the thrill of immersion in a virtual world at the push of a button. If you think it won't be a success don't get it, if you think it won't have any games or content don't get it, if you think it's worth no more than $100 don't get it ( because it will be). My glass is half full, I think it will do pretty good. Let's all hope so 'eh!
There are many olympic sports or pastimes you would be able to play whilst wearing Morpheus, Skiing, snowboarding, shooting, archery, rowing, table tennis, bowling and funnily enough cycling would probably make good use of the headset, not with pedals of course anymore than i use a gun whilst playing killzone or a sword playing demon souls, and whats wrong with a bit of button mashing in the 100mtrs, (it's still a lot fun with the wi). Unfortunately if some people get nausea from Project Morpheus there's not a lot that i can do about that, I may even get it myself, who knows, but from what i have read VR is a big part of our future and not only in gaming. These are probably the 1st small steps to whole new experiences to come. We should embrace this technology not belittle it. Most every single person who has experienced VR say the same thing, that it is amazing, I've never been within 100mls of Project Morpheus so maybe I don't know what i'm talking about and it may fail, but I'm one who's prepared to put his money where his mouth is and give it a go when it finaly arrives. Because of my interest i have watched countless Virtual Reality videos on utube, Markiplier and jackscepticeye are just two, where they RUN around buildings, open land, and dungeons using a controller, they don't find it a problem why should I.
@rjejr When I play and enjoy a video game such as uncharted, bloodbourne, project cars i feel totally immersed in the, action, storyline and characters. I have feelings of fear, horror, panic, hate and frustration, all these emotions I experience whilst sat on my settee with my feet up on a pouffe playing a game, Hell, i get the same sensations when watching a good movie.I find it hard to believe you can play a good video game and not bcome engrossed in the title. In ten years of gaming I have never felt detached because i wasn't running around my living room, climbing up the walls or crawling on all fours in stealth mode, so why should I not be immersed because I am wearing a Project/M headset, i feel confident that i will be quite happy (as probably millions of others, if it sells that many ) to use the ds4 or move controllers to navigate buildings, mountains forests and space just as i have done for the past ten years. Talk to everyone with Driveclub or Project cars if they prefer to play these games with a gamepad or a wheel, probably 999% prefer the wheel, Why? because of the immersion, it seems more real! they know they're not doing 200mph around Monaco circuit, but it's an improvement and feels a more genuine experience as it will be with Project Morpheus. I am sure Sony and any other studios developing games for Morpheus will build games suitable for the headset (they would be a bit dim if they didn't wouldn't they).Anyway couple of weeks and we'll have a better idea of whats on the table. ps I think a price of around £250-£300 seems fair when you consider a top of the range wheel can set you back £500
