Re: Fans Are Buying Fewer Boxed Video Games Than Ever in the US

crypticc

This situation is manufactured by Sony.

They're carving up both supply (limited software) and demand (limited drives and increased costs to get a device with a drive)

E.g. this week Sony media announced they'll stop producing physical disks, leaving to independents. Costs will go up for remaining production.

It's a horrid circle with only one ending of Sony's design... Sony owning all profit on all sales that will be now digital and no second hand market.

I'm all for choice but they really need to be made to get rid of the term "ownership" with these online streaming rentals that they still call purchasing.

We really need an anti trust suit now before it's too late.

Undoubtedly, somewhere there's a trail of communications that Sony policy is to get rid of the high street software sales to drive people to their own market place and streaming services that no one wants.

Feel the next anti trust from EU would be looking into this in the same way they've challenged Apple over their anti competitive practices.

If Sony continue like this then they must be forced to enable alternative market places and second hand sales on their devices.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

Without disk drive, or ability to sell or gift games bought digitally. Including to charity shop down the road if I choose. No, sorry having every generation of playstation since the OG playstation I don't think I'll get this generation. Or even the next 6 if Sony doesn't give physical media

Re: Random: What Happens to Your Digital PSN Library When You Die?

crypticc

It's not just about what happens when you're dead.

It's killing the second hand market and the charity shop media corner.

I have friends who have lost movies "owned" on streaming services when that service lost the contract for that film.
And although with so many manufacturer owned software houses it's less likely with Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox games, it could happen and it's only a matter of time. And think about it.. You've bought this material but can only use it as long as you subscribe to PSN or in the case of movies, the movie streaming services.

I think they should ban use the word purchase, or own when buying digital content that relies on network connectivity either to use it, or install on another machine that might not have that connectivity.
Lease is a more appropriate word and will make the buyers of this stuff think about what they're actually buying.

What's more amazing is that anyone even thinks what happens when you die is news. Currently almost without exception we don't own digital content that we've bought. It's a mugs game.

Still no Motorstorm... I know they closed evolution studios... It seems to promote Drive club which went no where. but still ...

I have ps5 but if they did Motorstorm with streaming open world games. Pacific risk but with nanite. Then I'd really look up
