I definitely agree with what you say in this article. Furthermore, Sony's emphasis on high quality single player campaign games is why they are my console of choice.
I never played the original Mass Effect games and was interested in jumping in with Andromeda. I did see the hate before the game released but I held judgment until I played it myself. After playing around 10 hours I was so disappointed by the game that I started playing the original Mass Effect trilogy instead.
Yeah, the thing that got me to finally start playing the original games was how poor Andromeda was.
I know most people disliked 'No Man's Sky' but I think it could definitely benefit from a PS4 Pro patch. Sean Murray said in an interview with Daily Star "For our game (No Man's Sky) it’s procedurally generated. So more powerful hardware doesn’t just mean upgraded textures or a higher framerate. It means we can fundamentally change the experience..." "With more powerful hardware, we can have more trees, more leafs on those trees. The density or immersion of worlds, or new types of worlds could exist."
Maybe that's exactly what this game need now. While it definitely didn't live up to what it looked like it was going to be, I stilled enjoyed the idea of the game. A PS4 Pro patched version might more closely live up to what was being promised when Murray talked about and showed the game off at events before release.
Too many small issues made me wait on purchasing a PS4 Pro. It doesn't sound like too many games are all that improved with the Pro right now (with the exception of Tomb Raider and a couple others that don't really sell me on the system when I already own a PS4). I think I will wait at least until a game like Horizon Zero Dawn or Days Gone comes out and shows what PS4 Pro can really do for a new game. Hopefully they will have a bundle that includes one of those games then too.
Also, I didn't really hear much about VR being improved and the issue with the breakout box not supporting HDR. So if I want 4K HDR gaming I would have to unplug VR is annoying. Hopefully they can solve that soon.
Lastly, since there is such limited 4K content right now (granted it is getting better) I still feel it was a mistake not including UHD disc support. I understand why they did it from a pricing standpoint but feel that it sadly doesn't make this the all around 4K device I was hoping it would be. That's why I'm holding off for now.
@get2sammyb Just a little editing note. At the end of second to last paragraph you say "... UHD panels making it appeal native." I think you meant to say "appear".
Otherwise, thanks for your impressions so far. I look forward to reading the full review when it is done.
Oh man, I can't wait ! I've had such a great time at the event each year. I've especially enjoyed getting to meet so many wonderful people. All the other Playstation fans coming from all over the world make this experience awesome. Plus getting to meet all the indie developers, like Psyonix, before their games come out, then seeing them the next year after they found such success with Rocket League and getting to congratulate them was really neat. Furthermore, I got to meet so many Playstation employees that have the same passion for games because they are gamers too and I even had the opportunity to get Shuhei Yoshida's autograph.
Not to mention all the games you get to play. This event made me a believer in Playstation VR over two years ago because I actually got to experience it in Vegas at the first PSX. I highly recommend anyone with the ability to, come to this event. If you are a Playstation fan you will not be disappointed. You practically get enough stuff in the swag bag they give you when you check in alone that it's worth the $60 it cost for the 2-day pass, if you get it before October 16th. I especially thought the chance to be at an E3 style press conference to hear all the game announcements live was a cool thing I had always wanted to experience.
I still remember PS2 was my DVD player mostly for the first year I owned it. It is kind of funny that Sony didn't support a format that they themselves made, especially based on their history (PS3 being a bluray player was an extra reason to buy the system). I don't buy many physical discs anymore but the ones I do, I get because of special features included, 3D and now 4K UHD discs included. While streaming is the way I mostly consume films and television, 4K streaming can be problematic sometimes and the increase in data size can be an issue for me. If I actually started streaming 4K content on a regular basis, I could only imagine what my internet bill would look like at the end of the month.
Like was said at the end of the article, I think Sony should have had the feature in the console but it isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me. It just has made me take a wait and see approach with the Pro system. There is limited 4K content available right now, so why limit consumers. UHD is one way to watch true native 4K content and I would have liked that option. Especially since it was hard to see from the live stream of the Playstation Meeting event what the actual visual benefits of the PS4 Pro were (mainly because it was streamed at 1080p and even the 4K videos later released didn't support HDR), the inclusion of a UHD player would be an easy way to add value to the system. Since 4K Bluray players are still pretty expensive right now. Xbox One S is actually the most inexpensive option available and all the publicity that Microsoft is getting out of that feature being available on their console and not on Sony's looks a little bad. How much it actually affects people's decisions as to which system to buy this holiday, I'm not sure.
I wonder if part of what Bethesda was charging for with the season pass was to help fund the work they did to support mods on consoles. Just a theory and sadly it doesn't look like this feature is going to make it to PlayStation.
I think until No Mans Sky is released it will continue to be my favorite every event until it does. Based on what I am seeing and hearing, I really think it is also going to be a Playstation VR launch title.

Re: Poll: Has the Mass Effect: Andromeda Backlash Put You Off the Game?
I'm going to wait for the reviews and maybe rent the game first before deciding whether to buy it or not.
Re: Poll: Will Your PS4 Gather Dust Now the Nintendo Switch Is Out?
I've tried to do PS4 remote play on my Vita while on a trips but never really got it to work.

Re: Talking Point: What October PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want?
I'd like to see them add one or two PS VR games each month, to coincide with the release of the system in October.
