I bought a used 2014 Mac mini as an office machine for not much money recently. Probably the worst mini Apple ever made due to lack of expandability, so with 4GB RAM and a dog slow mechananical HD, it took about 4 mins to boot up and general operation was awful. But I knew that going in. I attached a Samsung T5 1TB external SSD and installed MacOS on it. She now boots up in about 30 seconds and general operation is 4 to 5 times faster. So it is no surprise that a console launched years after its predecessor with an SSD AND superior hardware is faster.
