"While there are no rewards for finding everything" I don't understand this statement. For finding the letters you unlock new areas. For finding the cassettes you unlock new songs, for finding all collectibles gives you a trophy for each area. Also not completely sure but I think you need to find the van in free roam to unlock it so how on earth is that "no rewards"?
Having said that, I was very skeptical about this game the first few hours probably because I expected it to be easier than it is but after a while I got used to the cars and now I absolutely love it. It's very solid and unique. The pop in shadows are noticeable especially in certain areas but it's not terrible. Definitely not a game breaker. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes racing games, just be patient with it
