Hot shots Golf Fore is one of my favorite games of all time. Not only because of the easy to understand, hard to master realistic gameplay, but the sheer amount of content the game had. It also carried a charm and comedy I've never quite seen in other Hot Shots. Characters were hilarious, the courses were memorable; I simply love Fore.
Everybody's Golf on PS4 was quite a big disappointment. Though I must say the ideas behind it I respect, between creating a character, massive courses you could run around, etc. I believe Clap Hanz envisioned a busy and exciting course with players interacting with each other, but it never really panned out. It also lacked the personality and charm I so wanted.
Now to this game. I have my reservations but I'm certainly excited about the number of characters and what seems to be a return to the classic formula. I expect the gameplay that made Hot Shots so special to be there, and we'll see how interesting those other modes are. Hopefully this can capture a glimpse of what made some of the other titles special
It does seem a bit low, but in no way reflects the game's brilliance, but rather the sheer volume of games releasing and simply too many people who can't be bothered to try it.
People can play their "black hole games" as much as as their heart desires, but if you give something a little different like this a try, you might find yourself seeing games in a new perspective, and your new favorite game of all even. It's that good
I'll continue to say it, we can have both. Our single player games aren't going anywhere, which is more clear than ever now. Nor do I believe Sony is going to see a massive success akin to helldivers 2. And that's ok. A successful live service feeds into their single player budgets, and vice versa.
There has to be significant consideration for the studios working on online service, their scope and IP. I'm sure Sony would love for a Horizon MMO to take off, but I don't see people wanting that. Whether you like live service titles or not, they're here to stay and naturally Sony wants a piece of it.
The problem is when Blue Point or Naughty Dog are burning resources for something they shouldn't be a part of. And I say that as someone who adores TLoU Multiplayer and was incredibly hyped for Factions 2.
While i'm not pumping my fist in light of all of the recent cancellations, the hope is that Sony is getting things in order and scaling back what has clearly been a step too far in this direction.
While Sony should pursue different avenues with live service, it's like walking a tightrope over a fire, and choosing which studios to do so a huge decision. I see no reason why Bluepoint should be working on live service, and a GoW live service even more so. Bend was working on a multiplayer game, so I assume this was that project, and have nothing else to show for the past 4+ years.
Helldivers 2 is such a great story of success, but it always made sense for Arrowhead to go down that path. I don't think their primary studios should be engaged with a fully live service title
Such nonsense. I can respect if you don't share in my game of the year, but this is pitifully low. Where's the tomatoes, I'm about to start lobbing em!
FF Rebirth is my GotY. Any other year and Metaphor would've taken the crown, but man, Rebirth was such a joyous experience I'm giving it the edge. It makes one wonder how they can top it in part 3, and to be honest, I don't think I expect them to.
Setting foot into the gorgeous open grasslands with your comrades by your side, and a conjoining thought; how much love was poured into this one.
ND has been my favorite studio for some time. Not only are they inarguably world class in visual detail, but I love the beautiful and harrowing stories they've told over the last decade plus. And like TLoU 2 or not, they aren't afraid to make something they believe in.
Now I'd be dishonest if I said I'm crazy about our first look at both the trailer and MC. It certainly looks promising, but without the ND logo I fear it's somewhat forgettable. The MC Jordan looks fine, but didn't leave a strong impression. And yes I'd prefer she had hair. Though one can make an argument it adds to her tough looking exterior, whether she does this intentionally or not.
Regardless, people can make the claims the game will "fail," it's clearly an "agenda," the same song and dance that people inflict on damn near every game. I have faith that Naughty Dog will deliver something wholly unique, memorable, and up to their standardsnin the end. I have no reason not to believe so. But I also understand no studio should be immune to failure, and valid/ good faith debate.
One last thing. I've said this before, but the hate Neil Druckmann receives, while not surprising in any way, I feel is truly unwarranted. So many people always calling him a garbage human, terrible to employees, agenda driven, etc. They act like they know him personally, like he spit in their cereal. Ive followed him for some time, and while I obviously don't know him too well, he seems to be a genuine person, trying to make something that stands out in the industry, and something that will be talked about for years to come.
They certainly could have went the more safe and certain route by bringing Jin back, but I'm glad they are giving us a new origin story and character to follow. And It's a woman ronin, super cool.
I think Ghost 2 always felt it would be announced before ND and Bluepoint's next game, so it's a relief to finally check one off the list.
@Ralizah There should almost be a case study about it, truly.
As seen many times before, people who are hateful and vitriolic towards something are always the loudest, which gives the impression that everyone hates that thing. Even though I know many people were indifferent towards Concord, and many didn't even know it existed at all.
But I have never seen anything quite like this. It almost felt like it personally offended people.
I'm not looking to earn the title of "Concord Defender Number 1" here, but it was a title that was polished, played relatively well, the devs didnt lie about what it was, etc.
All I'm saying is that Concord didn't deserve such a brutal, unprecedented fate. Would many of the valid criticisms thrown its way been solved with time? Maybe? I think it at least deserved to answer that
@Suur The game was utterly rejected and pounced on like nothing ever seen before. Consumers have done enough. Firewalk clearly has talent, and closing the studio is absolutely not the right direction. Completely disagree
What an utter shame. The weekly cutscenes and the '80s Sci-Fi aesthetic we're cool ideas, just not enough to set it apart. It clearly had issues, but I contend that it received unprecedented and unwarranted hate.
And no that doesn't mean it didn't deserve criticism. I wished it wasn't a hero shooter as well. A few characters stood out, others were bad. Gameplay was tight and polished but there isn't a hook there for most. And while I like the $40 model certainly more than F2P, it was the worst decision for this title.
I hope Firewalk can find some path forward. I'm not sure theres much of anything they can retain from what we could call Concord 1.0 and use in 2.0. Even the name Concord has become a meme, and it might be best to distance from if they indeed turn Concord into something else.
One final thought. I've been with PlayStation all my life, and like many others, prefer single player experiences. But PlayStation can explore both. Helldivers 2 is one of biggest successes in PS history, and offers an experience that cannot be found with PlayStation's typical offerings.
But if Sony continues to commit to this strategy, which I think is fine, they will have to accept it can be like walking a tight rope over a fire.
@get2sammyb what I've been saying as well. Most of the criticisms are easily understandable- people don't want another hero shooter, maybe it looks uninspired, gameplay is too slow for some people, etc.
But the unrelenting dogpile of memes, and in my opinion, unwarranted hate, is just quite sad to see. I quite like the beta, and while I know this game shouldn't be $40 and I too would rather it be single player, I can think of other games that are far more deserving to be made an example of than Concord.
Oh and another thing. This is far from anything new on the internet, but the narrative surrounding this game and woke culture is both cringy and embarrassing.
The game has pronouns on the character select screen, and what's intended to be a diverse cast. That's all I've seen. Make no mistake, I know a hero shooter is only as good as its gameplay and a likable hero list. But I personally don't see an agenda
Well anyway, I hope Firewalk can salvage something here, but more importantly, they rebound with whatever they do next
I'll take any excuses to talk about Sea of Stars; it's an absolute gem that I thoroughly enjoyed. I haven't played some of the games it was inspired by, but it's got me curious no doubt. And the soundtrack is in my top three all time
The potential of a part 2's multiplayer will always hurt me. The last of Us one's multiplayer is incredibly good, so unique, and has an atmosphere and tension unlike anything else I've played.
What I and I think plenty of others wanted was just an extension of what Factions was. But I guess it is true; the landscape is different now. With the amount of money and time that would have been sunken into this project, it would have been closer to a Helldivers 2 I suppose. They would have worried too much about adding more content and keeping the player base engaged, rather than just letting it be as the first did
Which in turn would have taken too many resources. Or maybe it wasn't good from the start, was all over the place, and Bungie did right. I'd like to know the details more in depth. Oh well, just don't shut down my Factions 1 servers!
Got it right. Naturally I never get to all the nominees, but I couldn't be happier about Stellar Blade's success and the IP's future. The fear was it could go either way, especially after the silence it endured last year. Super enjoyable game.
And then there's Rebirth. I simply smile when I think of this title. I never played the OG game, and for this to be my first experience with these characters and world, what more can you ask? Can't praise the devs enough for this one
I'm not happy about this, even though it is true Persona romance's do lack substance. It's my hope that romance is vastly improved in 6, but I still enjoy picking a partner and getting what little scenes there are, it's part of the roleplay experience and I simply like romance.
As for this game, a ruler would absolutely look for romance, it may just not be something they want to invest time in. So be it, I'm still excited to see what they can pull off with this. But this is disappointing news
Ive been on Stellar Blade for over 2 wks now, and I won't have it finished before Eldin Ring dlc, so I think I'll balance the two for a bit. I typically don't like doing that, but it's also good to freshen things up, as great as Stellar Blade is.
Sony's wording made it sound like it'd be a very lukewarm SoP, particularly when they mentioned of PS studio games coming this year. As it stands, that would only show live service titles that may or may not hit this year, so the hope lies in third party reveals and most of all, a teaser for naughty dog or sucker punche's next game.
I feel the window from announcement to release is around 18 months, so showing a new first party title whether it be from Blue point Naughty dog or sucker Punch, we'd still be looking at late 25 early 26. It's time. Guess we'll see but my expectations are very tempered
Yeah I get people people didn't like the most divisive game of all time, but it seems people go out of their way to spout hatred towards towards him, even blatantly making stuff up. I've been following him for some time, and while I can't know Neil very well, I've always seen him as a genuine person and a talented creator.
Every game has its own marketing spiel that you can largely ignore, but Naughty Dog has given us absolutely no reason to doubt them. Redefining mainstream gaming maybe not, but they always innovate and make unforgettable experiences
