Re: Sony Quietly Decided to Scale Back PC Ports Last Year, Insider Claims

@PuppetMaster

But the question is would they buy a gaming machine that is weaker than their expensives gaming rig?

As someone in that position I can answer. Choice.

Contrary to common belief very few PC gamers are all about raw power or are part of this ridiculous PCMR (which started as a joke on Zero Punctuation).
As I said in another thread most PC gamers, based on Steam stats, are sporting mid-range rigs equivalent to somewhere between last gen and current consoles. It's a common misconception that ALL PC gamers own monster rigs. Even so not all those with a powerful rig "hate consoles". Again, only a very small minority. I own an absolute beast of a PC and still very much enjoy gaming on consoles.

There are literally millions of people who are gaming on PC, more than PlayStation, Xbox and Switch combined and a large percentage of them also own consoles - including PS5.

The narrative you hold is, I'm afraid to say, pretty much of your own creation based on a handful of poor experiences with a minority group.
So, when you do a fun little 'hur-hur PCMR missing out' rant it's actually incredibly misplaced and ill-educated. I'm not insulting you, just stating the facts. Assuming you don't own a gaming PC yourself and only a PS5 it's ironically you that is missing out, not the brunt of PC gamers.

Choice is king, my friend.

News flash, most gamers don't want to spend 2-3K on a rig

This is very true. The Steam data doesn't lie. The VAST majority of PC gamers are sporting mid-range rigs comparable to somewhere between last gen and current consoles, with only a few punching above the PS5 Pro.

In the world of PC gaming I'm actually in the minority with a rig that can crush absolutely everything I throw at it with ease and makes the PS5 Pro look like a potatoe - but I had to spend the bucks last year to own such a beast. That being said I've always owned high-end rigs as a rule.

They are one of those genres that never grow old. I've a whole bunch of no-longer-available arcade classic brawlers sat on an external drive and a dozen or so on older consoles PS3/360.
I will happily buy newly developed ones like this, though, if they're up to scratch.

Well, guess we're stuck with the PS4 version then. It's not the end of the world as it's perfectly playable, but a even just a few performance tweaks wouldn't have gone amiss.

That being said I never did finish Bloodborne. Got tired of having my arse kicked. Just can't do soul-likes anymore as my dexterity wanes with the coming of old age so I don't play them anymore.

@Avalanchee

This only proves that there are very few PC gamers who want to play God of War or Horizon Forbidden West, but are not willing to purchase a $500 console to do it

For some, perhaps, or that like me they still have a PS4 and see those games, or in particular the ones they're interested in, are also available on that so don't feel it's necessary to spend £500+ on a PS5?
There are even those who just own a PS4 without a PC who haven't upgraded to PS5 because of the same reason. Sony's recent marketing to encourage PS4 owners to upgrade is absolute proof of this.

There's always more than one factor to consider.

@twitchtvpat

Yes it's a classic. I've it on my 360 Arcade list. My kids, when they were younger, used to love playing it.

I remember seeing it in the arcade for the first time. The moment I saw the title screen rotate in 'GOLDEN AXE' with that rolling drum beat I was onboard.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem (PS5) - Two-in-One Horror Not Quite an All-Timer

Gemini53

I'm not entirely sold on the stalking, can't fight back element in this instance. I don't mind it as a genre, I enjoy games such as Amnesia where it's the driving driving narrative, but I've never really liked that it's now become a key feature in Resident Evil. The times Capcom have used it of recent in the franchise always feels tacked on and as a result it has always been more frustrating than frightening.
That being said it was pretty well done in RE8 and the foetus, but it was fleeting.

However, with the sheer amount of games already garnering my attention, including some I've yet to begin, is why I won't pick up RE9 until a deep sale.

@Kiltedhaggis

Thanks for the welcome.

I love PC gaming and the open-ended nature of it, full modding capacity, emulation, GoG for its DRM policy and offline installers and so on, but it's not for everyone which I totally respect.

Xbox is in a transitional period, but I'm not entirely convinced it's for the best. We shall have to wait and see. I would personally like to see Microsoft drop all this 'Xbox everywhere' nonsense and return to developing a console with a central ideology and great exclusive games designed specifically for Xbox just as we have seen before, but I think that time has passed.

If the rumours of a hybrid ring true then I've no use for it as I'm already catered for with my PC. It simply won't have anything to offer.

PS6? Who knows, but I've no doubt it'll be a little bit more straightforward. However, I sincerely hope Sony get back to developing and overseeing a catalogue of new IP and rein in the live service dream.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 622

While you might find it hard to believe I began The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the first time just the other evening. I've played and finished the first two games years ago, however TW3 has been sat on my PC for quite some time due to other commitments.
Anyway, I've just finished the Bloody Baron storyline and what a damn fine game it is. Remarkable in fact.
I'm curious, though, as to why the combat gets a lot of ire? If you've played the first two games in the series you'll know it's a massive improvement. I actually find TW3's combat perfectly fine, better than a lot of other games of this type in fact, and have now gotten it down to an almost masterful degree. I rarely get bothered in combat.

Still playing through Alice: Madness Returns. I'm about half way now. Remains one of my favourite platformers.

Also fired up a classic game on the old 360 this week, PGR 4.
Been a while since I've played it and it's lost none of its charm. Why don't they make racing games like this anymore? There's a palatable brilliance to it's bold simplicity. There's none of the tiresome tropes found in modern racers. No ridiculous narratives, no forced nonsense dressed up as gameplay, just pure, unadulterated racing that handles wonderfully as it slips and slides somewhere between arcade and simulator.
I often see people asking for PGR to return, but I say no to that as they'd no doubt only go and ruin it with their online DRM and aggressive monetisation. So yes while I lament the fact they don't make racing games of this calibre anymore I say leave well alone and not sour PGR's reputation.

Hello! I've been mulling about in PX, but I thought I'd join in the fun here as well.

So, even speaking predominantly as a PC gamer I actual welcome this should it come to fruition.
To copy and paste myself from PX it might be an unpopular train of thought these days, but I like exclusives. For me exclusive games makes my decision to invest worthwhile and I know that many an exclusive tailored to that platform is, more often than not, going to be of a certain quality or style, whether it's Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

I enjoy console gaming and the unique games and features it provides. While I skipped this generation, (outside of the PC I'm currently gaming on a PS4, PS3, 360 and Switch for consoles), I'm very much looking at jumping back in next gen.
If a gaming hardware company's latest project has nothing unique to it and I can get the same games on everything else then it's unlikely I'll invest.

As for this rumour? I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand. If the rumours surrounding the next Xbox are true then Sony will likely be looking to close a loophole that affords Xbox users access to PS exclusives, particularly those single player, narrative driven titles, via Steam.
