Publisher Team 17 and developer BULKHEAD have confirmed console versions of Wardogs, which is proving to be extremely popular in its early stages.
The game launched into Early Access on Steam yesterday, 10th September 2026, and it has already sold more than 1.25 million copies.
That's not the only impressive number it has to boast about; at the time of writing, it has almost 300,000 people playing, according to SteamDB.
Over 17,000 user reviews label the game with a Mostly Positive rating, too.
It seems like this is making a big splash, then — but what is it?

Wardogs is an online multiplayer first-person shooter in which 100 players are divided into three teams, each aiming to take control of a specified zone.
Inspired by the King of the Hill game mode found in many shooters, this game basically takes that idea and scales it up.
The game encourages teamwork and skilful play by rewarding your actions with in-game currency, which is used to purchase weapons, gear, and vehicles to gradually improve your loadout.
With various vehicles and destructible environments, it really reminds me of Battlefield but with a narrower focus.
As well as being able to destroy buildings, you can also build structures yourself, which opens up more tactical possibilities.
The only catch is that the Early Access period is set to go on for a while, with the PS5 version not launching until sometime in 2028.
Still, if it can live up to its hugely successful first few days, this should be a multiplayer game to watch out for in future.

2028?! Hype instantly deflated.
MAG reincarnated but with 156 less players.
@MFTWrecks Why? It is in Early access anyway. They plan to have Early access for 1-2 years too. So it is very likely that PS5 could come at same time when 1.0 will be released or soon after it
How are 100 people divided into 3 teams? Is the one remaining person operating in a special capacity, or is it just a 33/33/34 split?
Yup can't wait for this one, Team 17 made Hell Let Loose as well so they have plenty of experience in the field. HLL Vietnam runs extremely well, has populated console only servers and it's 100 player also so I'm confident this one will live up to the hype and will be free of invasive MTs.
Hopefully they will have sorted out the server queue times by 2028
It's not for me, but I'm glad to see any new shooter offer something different and the realism really helps. Having to say it's not an extraction shooter or a battle royal shows how niche it actually is, there's definitely an audience for that kind of game.
My immediate attention turned to trying to work out how 100 people are split into 3 teams.
Once I put that to the side, it does look good. Sign of the times that stating it is not an battle Royale or extraction shooter is one of the key parts of the trailer.
Doesn't appear to be doing anything massively original but if it's all done well, it doesnt need to. I can see it being a success. Whilst I've moved on from online games and wont be playing myself, still good to see a new classic shooter to take on the established few, hope it does well.
