Level-5 has announced today in its latest livestream that a full PS5 remake of Professor Layton and the Curious Village is releasing next year. You can catch the reveal trailer above.
As for the kind of updates and improvements you can expect in the remade version, the official website mentions the following:

- Immersive exploration
- High-resolution animation
- Widescreen support
Obviously, the visuals have been given a facelift too. The PS5 remake is set to launch at some point next year.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village debuted as a Nintendo DS game in 2008, and released to critical acclaim as an excellent puzzle experience. It's got an 85 rating on Metacritic, and 18 years ago, our sister site Nintendo Life awarded the game a 9/10, concluding:
"Professor Layton and the Curious Village is unquestionably one of the best Nintendo DS games released thus far. If you enjoyed games such as Brain Age or Phoenix Wright, you’ll be more than satisfied with this puzzling adventure."

I really can't see how this will work well without the touchscreen and stylus.
@SMJ Touchpad maybe? Or use PS5's under-loved gyro? But then how would it work on Xbox? On PC you have a mouse, and Switch 2 has gyro, mouse and touchscreen.
Sadly gone are the days games were made for their hardware. It's all so homogenous now....which makes bringing unique games back a challenge.
there are just so many entries in this series that it would have been better served as a collection... similar to what capcom has done with phoenix wright. just a single game is not appealing at all and they will likely charge 3X what it's worth. this screams testing the waters and not having much faith in their own product. or perhaps they will release all the games in pieces before rolling out a collection which should go over well. but yea, probably better off with the ds/3ds originals anyways due to the emphasis of stylus controls...
Oh curses, I’ve already replayed this on DS last month. Yes, I’m aware that remakes don’t have to replace the original, but this is a puzzle game, and I’ve recently went back to it to solve all the puzzles.
