FlexStrike, PlayStation's official fight stick peripheral, has been delayed indefinitely.
In an update to a PS Blog post on the upcoming hardware, Sony confirms the fight stick will no longer launch on 6th August, 2026 — crucially, the same day as Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
"Due to unexpected production delays, FlexStrike wireless fight stick will launch at a later date," the blog post now reads. "We will share an update soon."
There is no new date for the release of FlexStrike, so we'll just have to wait and see how much further down the line the controller takes to make its arrival.
Sony explains more about the delay:
"We’re working to ensure we deliver the best possible experience to our players with FlexStrike, so we’re taking extra time to put the finishing touches on the product. We apologize for this delay and look forward to bringing the FlexStrike experience to the community when it launches."
It sounds like those who have pre-ordered a FlexStrike will still get one, and will receive updates on when exactly the product will ship via their chosen retailer.
It's a shame the peripheral isn't making it out in time for the release of Marvel Tokon, but hopefully it'll be worth the extended wait when it launches at some point in the future.

It’s no longer going to be a physical product
Oh, I was actually looking forward to having a whirl with this. Ah well, hopefully it shall be here at some point relatively soon.
It’s too physical for an all digital world. 🤭
Sony has to re-tool the stick and make it all-digital 🤣 🤣 🤡 🌎
I have this preordered, so I certainly won’t mind having to pay later
@Robinsad It'll be like that old Thinkgeek item that would laser project a keyboard onto a table and you'd tap the table where the keys would be. I remember it looking like a cool novelty item but the reviews said it wasn't very good lol.
Wild, you rarely see something like this happen. Wonder what the issue is!
They're going to make it to where there will be a code in a box that you can only use once to register the controller to your PS5. That way you won't be able to sell it or lend it to your physical friends
I'm dead interested in trying this once its out. I have the nacom stick, so I'm unlikely to shell out for another, but I do like the design of this...
That's a shame. I have both ordered together and I've been excited for the launch of Tokon.
It doesn't sound like a disaster at least. I can wait.
Not surprising. I guess they will be releasing it digitally too.
I’m sure Sony will be able to provide a digital version at the same price.
Worlds first Digital Only Fight Stick!!!
While this one seems nice and have the advantage of being wireless using PS Link the fact that is not feasible to swap parts is a dealbreaker.
I would recommend the Nacon Daija or the Hori Alpha instead, they are almost the same price.
Probably has to do with the EU demanding all electronics have replaceable batteries. The PS Portal and Dual sense controllers all need redesigns soon.
If Nintendo can provide exact specifications of the new versions and set out a timescale months in advance, then the wealthier Sony with less to redesign certainly can.
But they won't because transparency is rare.
Also I expect the fight stick to get a price increase.
Well that's unfortunate considering it was supposed to be launching alongside Tokon.
Someone misread the memo as "ramp up production on Blu Rays and shut down the FlexStrike factory".
@Robinsad now a phone app.
Sony should cancel that fight stck controller. We don't want that about that physical ps6 disc .Word up son
Thats wierd considering they just announced it surely the would have know they wouldnt be able to deliver it then.
Olivia newton John ask Sony to let's get physical.but Sony say we going digital instead come on son😀😃🤣😂.Word up son
wtf is Sony thinking? Who’s stupid enough to buy this for something they won’t actually own? This is like purchasing accessories for a car you’re leasing instead of buying outright.
@Balaam_ It’s a controller, it goes with the console you own
Sony misunderstood the backlash and cancelled the wrong announcement.
Removed - duplicate/fake account; user is banned
Lmaooooo how they decide that right after making a post about it a week ago
@get2sammyb it’s ok the sticks will be releasing digitally only now
I see the same joke regurgitated again and again I see. Almost like humans are nothing but sheep
@Artois2 Or we’re all angry and expressing that.
@dskatter I’ll miss putting discs in my arcade stick, too
@dskatter Except it isn't relevant to the article.
@Rhaoulos haha love that!
Isn’t this the product that they recently broke the communication ice with after the physical backlash?
Sony just keep embarrassing themselves 🤦♂️
@BIG3 I think there’ll be an option to download on iOS and android also 🤭
@Artois2 maybe there are things that mean so much to people they don’t want to let it go?
Wait they released an ad last week and now it's delayed indefinitely? Lol come on now the math ain't mathing with that excuse.
@Theamazing1 It was announced over a year ago...
@Balaam_ What are you even talking about lol did you comment on the correct article? 😂
They will get some stick about this
You've got to hand it to Sony, they have done an amazing job in directing our attention away from their war on discs.
@yohn777 fair enough i only heard about it when they but the trailer up on their channel after they announced the end of physical games and everyone was on their backs in the comments lol.
Oh. Shame. I decided against pre-ordering one anyway. Might pick one up 2nd hand, might acquire one from A. N. Other-Brand. Or may just refocus my gaming interests over to the PC space, and even if this thing is supposed to be PC compatible it wouldn't surprise me that Sony wants me to buy a download code in a box to make it so, foe the money they're asking for it I could probably make my own anyway...
Maybe the owner of the factory told Sony that they will of course produce digital controllers because of 'consumer trends'.
@Artois2 I was thinking the same; also thought the reason its been delayed is because theyre increasing the RAM to 1kb and will now cost £100 more.
The 8 face buttons are disk shaped and Sony has banned that, it will be re-announced with square buttons in a few weeks.
Something something digital joke something clever something something.
Sony should stop the production since it's using plastic and the earth is dying because of plastic waste. But i'm sure digital arcade stick will be popular 😃
You should be able to use the controllers you already own and not be forced to buy licensed hardware.
Well, that’s awkward.
"unexpected production delays" can mean a lot of things. Maybe a quality assurance check found a defect that they need to fix. Maybe one of the components didn't get delivered on time and held up manufacturing. Maybe there was a strike at a manufacturing plant...or a fire (a fire that damaged products ready to ship delayed a kickstarter I bought into once). SO MANY options.
controllers are better anyway; we done with the 90s
only the morons running sony would drop the ball like this. clueless as usual.
also, nobody cares about overpriced controllers. they might sell a couple hundred of these. might be better for sony PR to address the real concerns with the company instead of worrying about a terrible fight stick.
@RobN Finally, some sensibility!
Sony are just so clueless it’s painful. They really can’t read the room can they?
Dude look around, no one gives a s*** about your controller, how about addressing the bombshell you dropped a few weeks ago rather than tell us about your joystick problems? Seriously!
They're investigating millions in r&d for the touchscreen version.
This arcade stick got delayed bc it doesnt have a disc drive 👀
@datamonkey They're not gonna talk about it after GTA 6 pre-order numbers showed a big chunk of PS userbase will nod their head with whatever Sony gonna do. That's why right now Sony in tone deaf mode and expect the "loud minority" will calm down and eventually give in to all digital games.
I am gonna stick with my TEs but wanted to try this one out.
Why are the R buttons on the left and the L buttons on the right?
Looks they expected preorders instead of backlash... their fault.
'As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from joysticks to digital, physical joystick production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will soonish cease, as We, Sony, determine the ideal way of eliminating any "joy" in our products is to not provide any optimism, nor optimization in our products. **** YOU VERY MUCH.'
Junk Food has solid "leverless" fight controllers. I have the micro and like it, but the Sworl controller looks pretty interesting
@djlard actually some one else pointed it out in another post on the article , i'm guessing it has more to do with the possible battery law in Europe.
The case no longer contains a stick, just a digital download code.
@twitchtvpat thats a good point but i really think sonys batteries last forever. I mean i have ps3 controllers that are wireless and they charge just fine and hold charge for ages.
@Leet187 that is true i've never really had issues with the batteries , but from what i've seen i think all sony has to do is make some kind of cover that can screw off to get to the battery. but i doubt they want to release a new product and then have to redesign it after the law is official.
