Frictional Games, the studio behind Amnesia and SOMA, has announced it's delaying ONTOS to 2027 so it can properly deliver on its vision for the PS5 psychological thriller.
It first debuted at The Game Awards back in December, originally scheduled for a launch this year. That is no longer the case after today's news.
A social media post explained: ONTOS is our most ambitious game to date, both in terms of its size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay. In order to deliver this vision, we have decided to push the release of ONTOS to 2027."

It said there will be more information surrounding the title's characters and world soon. Should you require a reminder of what ONTOS is, catch the reveal trailer above.
You are Aditi Amani, invited to the repurposed moon hotel Samsara by the cryptic legacy of your estranged father, a brilliant mind-turned-prophet. What begins as a search for answers quickly spirals into something far stranger. Samsara is no ordinary outpost, but a place where reality fractures, where truths are buried beneath layers of deception and obscurity. As you delve deeper, guided by fragments of your father’s past, you must confront disturbing revelations about the nature of existence — and your place in it.
Stellan Skarsgård is a voice in the game, who's best known as an actor in dozens of films and TV shows. You may know him best from the Star Wars spin-off TV series Andor, but he's also been in Dune and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Easily one of my most anticipated horror games. SOMA was truly a great experience, while not scary the story more then made up for that!
I just beat Soma for the first time. So freaking good. I’m buying Ontos day-one, for sure. Can’t wait!
Forget GOTY.
SOMA is a likely candidate for my GOML (Game Of My Life) award.
It's been well over a decade since I completed it, and I still randomly think about that game when I'm out for a walk or laying in bed.
It came up with a disturbing concept and brilliantly suckered the player into experiencing and truly understanding just how horrifying it really was.
Very excited to see what they've come up with.
I just hope they aren't like Fullbright who had their magnum opus with Gone Home, and could only make a slightly weaker replica of the concept with the sequel Tacoma.
SOMA is a tough act to follow. Best of luck to them! If I'd produced SOMA I think I could retire from the industry immediately and feel content for the rest of my life.
Thank you I’ll be havin soma that-
