God of War Laufey vs Wolverine 1

Marvel's Wolverine launches for PS5 in just over three months, on 15th September 2026, while God of War Laufey is not expected to release until next year — but you could be forgiven for thinking it's the other way around based on how Sony has promoted the two games since State of Play.

PlayStation fans have picked up on how the platform holder has been pushing God of War Laufey hard on social media.

In the days since the last PS5 livestream, many of PlayStation's social posts have focused on the Faye-focused entry, as it highlights both the 23-minute gameplay video and the many interviews that released alongside it. Of course, it's doing this for a game that doesn't have a release date yet, and fans find it interesting how Marvel's Wolverine is not getting as much of a push from PlayStation.

It is true that PlayStation's social media marketing has focused far more on God of War Laufey than Marvel's Wolverine since the State of Play showcase.

From the main PlayStation account on Twitter / X, there have been 11 posts about God of War Laufey. On the other side, Marvel's Wolverine has received just four. To be clear, I am counting all the tweets that have followed after State of Play and the initial posts that shared each news piece from the livestream.

Fans of the brand are picking up on this detail and think it points to God of War Laufey coming soon, which is a scenario that's been suggested by reliable sources since the reveal:

While it is indeed true that PlayStation has posted more about God of War Laufey than Marvel's Wolverine since State of Play, could there be other reasons behind the promotion?

For starters, Marvel's Wolverine has been public knowledge for years now, and the latest gameplay slice essentially doubled down on the little we already know about the experience: this is a single player, linear action title that embraces the Wolverine character. Insomniac is a reliable source of quality superhero titles, so within Sony, there could be the assumption that it's basically already "sold" what the game is to its consumers.

Compared to God of War Laufey, it's a new mainline title, but it's also one with a protagonist that isn't Kratos. Sony has to get that in front of as many eyes as possible.

Then, the State of Play simply brought with it considerably more footage for God of War Laufey than it did Marvel's Wolverine. The gameplay look for Marvel's Wolverine that opened the showcase was seven and a half minutes long; the God of War Laufey reveal was just shy of 24 minutes.

Around the announcement, Sony also published multiple developer interviews that took deep dives into the series as a whole, the combat in Laufey, the character of Faye, and the cast. There's simply far more footage and details for Sony to promote compared to what Marvel's Wolverine had to offer, allowing it to push more videos to its many followers across social media.
