Expedition 33 Gets Free PS5 Content Update as It Turns One Year Old and Surpasses 8 Million Sales

Well that's a pleasant surprise, may have a little jump back in to grab the new hair styles, and have like the 30th fight with Simon purely for the music that plays during it, over the weekend.

Wow a year since it came out!
Also means it's a year since oblivion remake released I know because it kept me from playing expedition 33 for the first couple days of its release.

Wanted to get into this game but I dipped out hard during Act 3. It just felt incredibly repetitive and same-y.

Good to see it that it certainly found its audience.

Seems strange with all the hype we forgot about this game pretty quickly...it's a classic but myself I haven't touched it since last year yet I'm still playing KCD2 and MHWilds.

One of my all-time favorites. I still think about this game on an almost daily basis.

@somnambulance I disagree about the strength of E33 as a game. I just think it's very much a one and done (or two) kind of game for most people because the story beats just hit best that way. Most games I have ever replayed have been for gameplay, co-op, random generation or build crafting. E33 is just pretty linear story wise. RE has more play throughs you can jump into over multiple sessions instead of just absorbing all at once like we did with E33. I also really love that E33 doesn't do all the typical RPG bloat side quests which made it a much more palatable experience and kept the story beats from getting too far apart.

Let's not forget that 2025 had silksong, kcd2, Hades 2 and death stranding 2. Not a super weak year by any stretch

One of the greatest games ever made. Not going to go back for this but the game and story are enough to bring me back. One of the best games from a few years. Better than everything that has come out since. Even Nioh 3 doesn't beat Expedition 33. The Award Shows should just give Expedition 33 all the Game of the Years from this year also. Right now nothing beats this game. Resident Evil Requiem was worse than Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7 and it can be beat in a day. So definitely not a game of the year contender. Nioh 3 might be but Expedition 33 is better by miles than almost all games released this year last year and maybe the year before.

Currently fighting Simon; the characters will look fab as I get slaughtered again and again =L

@somnambulance Lol 2025 was far from weak, if anything it was the awards that was weak over glazing E33. I'm just looking to see how replayable it is or if it'd be still talked about for years to come like ER, BG3, RDR2, BB, TW3 etc.

@TheArt I'd hardly say E33 was over glazed. Some all time great games just are one and done games. It's certainly no weaker than bg3 imo. I love bg3 but if it had been released with as many bugs and exploits as it had by any of the mainstream western Devs it would've been marked down much more heavily, especially for the act 3 performance (though the majority of players never actually reached act 3 funnily enough).

Personally I'd also lump rdr2, it takes 2 and astro bot (the weakest goty in a long time imo) as one and done games for most players. People put far too much stock in game length as true metrics of 'value' that's why we get so much bloat in gaming and people who like to play as many great games as possible actually loved requiem , pragmata and even E33 as an RPG for not overstaying their welcome

@Skinny-Pete Reality, without question. Despite having to bring on an apocalypse that wipes out all of those characters I grew to love, Maelle leaving to confront a harsh reality was a far more ideal choice, in my opinion. I get the arguments for the other choice, but that would have been a horrendous choice in the long run. Better to rip off the band-aid and get it over with.

@Fizza Indeed. In all seriousness, Esquie is maybe the most charming video game character I've encountered in ages. It speaks to how careful and skillful the writers were in their juggling of tone that they could fit a giant French balloon creature into a game this devastating at times, and it doesn't come across as condescending or immersion-breaking.

@RBMango I can't do that spoiler blocker thing but I picked the other option myself couldn't bring myself to pick the other option both endings are quite dark though in fairness.
It's such an amazing game though I'd love another tale from a different expedition or something there's definitely legs it that franchise no doubt.
Such an amazing story the characters and twists definitely one of the best games around.
I don't even like turn based games either and that was done brilliantly.

I want to play it, but I heard it doesn't have lots of branching choices and multiple endings based on it. If I'm playing an RPG that's what I want and expect.

Still might buy it when it's very cheap in a few years though.

@INeedGoodGraphics I like that you have redefined RPG to mean something you personally want it to mean and then ham-stringed yourself from playing tons of great games to fit your own definition. Real gamer move.

@Skinny-Pete My hope is that Sandfall set the next Clair Obscur in a completely different setting with different characters. The ideal for me would be something that looks like FF7's Midgar with a more sci-fi edge to it.

@For-Kier When I play games I want things that I enjoy. It's pretty simple.

So I'm picky a lot of people are.
