Paramount has released a "Title Reveal" trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, its upcoming fourth entry in the popular live action movie series.
What will perhaps be of most interest to fans is the confirmation that Jim Carrey is set to return.
The actor has threatened to retire in recent years, leaving fans wondering whether he'll come back for subsequent movies to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik. It seems he will indeed be part of the ensemble.
The video also teases the arrival of Metal Sonic, who it seems will be an antagonistic force against Sonic and co.
The film is scheduled to arrive in March 2027, so it's still about a year away.
As well as Carrey, Ben Schwartz (Sonic) and debutant Kristen Bell (Amy Rose) are named in the video title, while the rest of the usual ensemble will be back for Sonic 4.
Confirmed by Schwartz on X, returning voices (and faces) include Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails), Idris Elba (Knuckles), Keanu Reeves (Shadow), James Marsden (Tom), Tika Sumpter (Maddie), and Lee Madjoub (Agent Stone).
The film will also add Ben Kingsley, Nick Offerman, Matt Berry, and Richard Ayoade to the cast in unknown roles.
There's plenty of time for new details to filter in during the next 12 months.

Love this series. Excited for the fourth movie.
If any one of Ayoade, Offerman or Berry is playing Metal Sonic, I'd probably go and watch it
Ben Kingsley as Big the Cat
Still haven’t seen 3. Which I’m disappointed in myself about lol.
The first one was a guilty pleasure. Seems I need to catch up!
I like Carrey, but I hope he won't hog the screen time like he did in previous movie. I still enjoyed it, but it might have been called "Robotnik the Man".
@AhmadSumadi Don't be, I've seen none yet. I'll either watch all three then watch four or wait for four and watch all four together. I thought they cancelled the first one after the promo images were nightmare fuel, then didn't think of it again until I saw articles like this one.
I've absolutely loved these movies, from what was a rough first introduction, they have only got better and better and that is one hell of a cast. Great to see Jim Carrey once again and funny to think he's never been much of a sequel person but he he is 4 films later, clearly having a great time
The third movie will be hard to beat for me. Took a lot of inspiration from the story of Sonic adventure 2, the best story in a sonic game in my opinion
Jim has been carrying this movie franchise for me.
disappointing end to carrey's career
