Gears of War made its PS5 debut last year with the original game’s Reloaded remaster.
By all accounts the shooter sold adequately on Sony’s console, but we never got the impression it moved huge numbers, like Forza Horizon 5’s port.
However, all eyes will now be on Xbox’s Showcase on 7th June, which will be immediately followed by a Gears of War: E-Day Direct.
This is where we’ll get our first proper look at the prequel, which was announced two years ago, in 2024.
Officially the game is still due out this year, although at this moment in time it’s only targeting Xbox Series X|S and PC. There has been speculation in the past that dev The Coalition will also bring the game to the PS5, but who knows if that’s still the plan?

On Reddit, fans are hopeful for a day-and-date release.
Forza Horizon 6, for example, has been officially confirmed for the PS5 – but it won’t release on Sony’s console until later.
Xbox is under new management now and has promised to indulge its core fans again. But whether that will extend to a return to exclusivity remains to be seen. New boss Asha Sharma has been particularly wishy-washy on this subject so far.
All eyes will be on the aforementioned livestream to see if a PS5 version is confirmed, then. We’ll obviously keep our ears to the ground and let you know what we hear.
