Sea of Remnants PS5

Ambition seems to be the name of the game when it comes to these high budget offerings from mega publisher NetEase, and developer Joker Studio has big plans upcoming pirate RPG Sea of Remnants.

This one was revealed back in the summer of last year, and even at the time, it sounded busy. It's both a single player and online adventure, boasting an open world, turn-based on-foot combat, action-based naval combat, loads of minigames, and crew management.

Oh, and it's also free-to-play, which is the important part, because its live service approach is set to be... aggressive.

According to a new report from TechRadar, the plan is to introduce a new "season" to Sea of Remnants every 10 weeks — that's every two and a half months — while also promising a major expansion every 20 weeks.

Even for the most popular live service titles on the market, that's a demanding schedule. The question now is whether the game will actually be able to establish and maintain enough popularity to fuel that kind of ongoing roadmap.

Joker Studio also comments that in-game purchases will be strictly limited to cosmetics, spread across battle passes and all that.

Sea of Remnants doesn't have a release date yet — it's supposed to launch at some point this year — but there's going to be a closed alpha test on PC this month. You can expect some early impressions from players in the near future, then.
