A GTA 6 fan may have been granted permission by Rockstar to play the highly anticipated game prior to its 19th November release.
But this story is particularly poignant because the player is terminally ill, and it’s unlikely they’ll live long enough to see launch day.
According to various reports, a Ubisoft Toronto employee posted a heartfelt message on LinkedIn last December, revealing that a family member had been battling cancer for years and had been given devastating news by doctors.
Anthony Armstrong, the cited staffer, pointed out that their relative had been waiting years to play the new GTA game, and now wouldn’t get the opportunity. They asked Rockstar to make an exception given the circumstances.
We’ve read and heard similar stories to this before, and it seems through updates to the post, that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reached out to discuss things further.
In a final update before the post on LinkedIn was deleted, Armstrong said: “We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
So, it’s unclear whether hands-on time was actually granted, but that’s the insinuation here. The LinkedIn post has since been deleted, although it was picked up by fans and we’ve been able to corroborate it.
The reality is that, even in this situation, Rockstar would have insisted on various NDAs and embargoes, so that’s likely why the original write-up has now been removed.
We suppose the important thing here is that the person in question gets to fulfil their wish. Whatever access they actually got, we wish them all the best and sincerely hope they enjoyed it.
