I literally thought Returnal too

I was honestly really digging it until the Rogue-like reveal.

As someone who actually enjoyed Godfall I'm very interested in this. Counterplay are a solid dev team. As mentioned it has strong Returnal vibes, looking forward to seeing more. Also love the protag design, reminds me a lot of the Hunter set you got from the Last Wish raid in Destiny 2.

@Shigurui @Oram77 This could be a great new IP, hopefully they stick the landing and give us something great. New IP are always welcome. I got returnal crossed with Remnant 2 vibes with this. Both games were fantastic

True. I see no difference in this trailer and modern day France, haha.

I'll have to see the permanent upgrade system - if there is one - to decide if it's something for me to consider or not...

A game taking heavy inspiration from Returnal coming out the same year as Returnal's direct successor Saros. What a time to be alive.

I've learned I do not like rogue like or rogue lite games. Returnal could have been a great game.

It is a great game. Just because you don’t like the genre or the game doesn’t mean it’s not a great game.

Returnal is one of only a few games I've bothered to Platinum (still only 1.5% of players have, which is crazy). If we get more quality games like it, I'll be there to check them out.

Not the best selling game on PS5 but certainly the best game on PS5 in my book.

@Brundleflies21 I finished doing everything there is to do in it four years ago, and I still fire it up from time to time. Gameplay is peak.

Yeah it has some Returnal vibe but i didn't see the enemies shoot a lot of bullets or lasers.

The protag armor looks cool though.

@KeldorTheCursed Never has the art of shredding felt so perfected. Those boss fights against Nemesis and Hyperion were sublime too.

This looks awesome. This is right up my alley.

@KeldorTheCursed Lol what do you mean it's crazy, Returnal is one of the absolute hardest games out there. I'd say it's easier to plat every souls game than it is to plat Returnal. I've put like 80 hours into it, & I'm sure it's cause I just need to get better, but I'm not even 1/3 of the way through the story yet. I love it but it's absolutely brutal, even compared to most roguelikes/roguelites

I guess it’s crazy to me because I am, by most accounts, a pretty casual gamer. I don’t really play souls games, either. I did beat Elden Ring before my friends, but I never finished Demon’s Souls (one of my first PS5 games). I got very frustrated with it. For some reason, I just get into a groove with Returnal that I guess a lot of other players don’t. Maybe the fast pace suits me more than Demon’s Souls, which I found to be a slog. A beautiful slog, but a slog, nonetheless.

@KeldorTheCursed me too. Returnal is literally the only game I've ever played where I had the desire to do the platinum. I'm still playing 5 years later

I personally hate returnal.
I think it's the worst "roguelike" ever made.

I think it's combat had a ton of potential, as the moment to moment feel was smooth as hell.

This looks similar, but in a way that respects the loop/player and also has more variety in the builds and abilities available.

Returnal had a handful of the same guns every single run and it made the repetition really grating for me.

Solas also looks like an improvement.

Let's hope these devs remember the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the genre, meta progression.

If I'm just getting a middle finger and a "git gud" after every run, I'll throw in the bin right next to returnal, and all the other subpar roguelikes and lites out there.

If PlayStation won't release Returnal for Switch 2 then someone else will... under a different name. 😄

@Sketti you do realize there are permanent upgrades? Plus several items you can pick up that will save you from death, etc? Not being snarky, I’m legitimately asking.

Returnal gets easier the more you progress and play. You just have to crack the gameplay loop.

It’s perfectly fine if you don’t like it, different strokes and all that, I’m just curious.

I said it's a terrible roguelike, the genre It belongs to, bc it is the absolute worst roguelike ever made.

The point of that genre is meta progression.
Returnal has none.
That's not a fun challenge, it's tedium as nauseum, and I enjoy difficult games that respect my time and money. Returnal does not do that.

That's a subpar experience for a roguelike.

Again, moment to moment gameplay has gotten enough flies eating the crap, but I'm mostly excited for their next game, as they've mentioned they didn't leave out the most important aspect of their game genre like they did w returnal.

Solas should be fun! And the game in this article also looks like a great slice of variety in the pie.

Any game doing the returnal formula, but fixing the massive missing piece is likely gonna be actually fun!

@Megabeenz you call that measley list of nothings proof of solid meta progression? You're high. That's garbage and most of that list isn't progressing anything.

It's one thing, tiny weapon perks. That's pretty much it. Oh and a melee/grapple eventually.

Absolutely pitiful stuff.

It's a pretty game w good moment to moment gameplay and the worst roguelike ever made.
(Not counting no budget/asset shlop)

@Sketti I think it’s safe to say you’re in the minority on that opinion. It’s plenty of progression if you’re good enough at the game.
