Whether the huge popularity of Hollow Knight: Silksong is having an effect on the reliability of the PSN service or not is unclear, after the events of earlier today. However, thousands of reports are flooding in of intermittent problems with the PlayStation Network this evening.
The network itself isn't completely offline; you should still log in if you boot your PS5 up. Though, some features like your Friends list may not be working. In fact, our PS5 is telling us we don't have any friends whatsoever. Unless we've suddenly been unfriended by everyone, that's not correct.
The tabs of the PS5 home page, like the PS Store and PS Plus icons, also seem to be taking a while to load. In essence, there seems to be a strain on PSN right now that's leaving the experience a little laggy.
DownDetector is also picking up thousands of reports, which have spiked in the last hour. Almost all the reports coming in complain of server connection issues:

We'll continue to monitor the situation and update this article if the situation gets any better or worse. Are you having problems with PSN this evening? Let us know in the comments below.

Damn that Hornet!
This actually made a good case for pre-orders and Pre-loads.
Today it’s been working fine for me, but I was having major issues last night. No friends list, lots of disconnecting.
It wouldn’t let me verify a license to play elden ring today. Then it said PSN was busy… turned it off and on again and it worked 🤷♂️
Can't play online and it won't let me download the new Indy DLC.
@4fold Make sure to set your PS5 as the primary console as that means you can play offline without needing to verify.
Same issues but resolved now.
Fixed now, but it wouldn't let me play a single player game I had just download because it said it couldn't verify the license. What a god awful system, Sony seriously needs to sort it because that should absolutely not be happening.
@DennisReynolds
We’ve been set up like this for over a year now, the wife and I being able to play each others games on either machine. I didn’t have to change anything, I think it working again after turning it if was just a coincidence and it was just a PSN connection glitch.
I’m actually incapable of playing Lost Soul Aside right now because I get an “invalid add ons” message every time I try to load my save.
Another one of these articles attributing the outage to Silksong? The issue is perfectly clear, it's a CDN outage. It's been effecting many sites all day. It has nothing to do with Silksong.
I knew there was something off about this
@YoureTooSlowBro They didn’t specifically say it was because of that. They said it may or may not be.
It's working just fine for me 🤷♂️
I lost access to my Trophy list last night at the time of this article, but it's up an running fine again today.
Couldn't get on to chat last night. Totally bummed out as Thursday is games night with the lads.
I don't game online anyway so it doesn't affect me but it just shows you how easily you can lose access to all your games of something goes terribly wrong in a digital world
Couldnt login to Path of Exile.
Wonder why PC players didnt want anything to do with our awesome service.
My friend list is empty and I noticed that images in the psn store are taking a very long time to load.
Multiplayer is working fine, downloading content working fine.
I can chat with friends as long as they show up in my chat history and/or I manage to get to their profile via a menu besides the friend list (I.e. the "friends are playing this game" interface)
Overall very strange behaviour...
