PS3's Resistance Games Not Playable on PS5, PS4 at All After Just 6 Months

Really weird they'll taking them off, maybe they'll add some new PS3 games to the PS3 server blades. The dream would of course be that they announce ps3 games are coming natively, but don't know if that's ever going to happen.

There needs to be more discussion from games media (y’all included) about the value of PS+ continually decreasing. While the few day one drops have been great and appreciated. They’ve hardly been consistent or of such quality, to justify the price increases, decrease in the number of titles offered, the small windows to actually play those games, premium still not being good enough, etc etc.

That's a shame, it's sad to see so many fun games left on the PS3. Hopefully they can be released in the future in a collection.

Would be awesome if Sony would partner with Night Dive to work on porting some really awesome trapped ps3 games. They already said they are up to the challenge

I mentioned this in the first article but I am not surprised by this. Since these are PS3 games that have to be streamed due to a lack of local emulation these two games take up more resources letting people play than most other games provided by this service. They require dedicated servers to make them accessible to players when wanted. My thinking is that these games were not played much at all in the last few months so Sony is taking them offline so they can add other PS3 titles that people will actually want to play.

I played all the resistance games when they came out but the series was simply never popular. The entire franchise sold a bit over 6 million units over 5 games but the first game sold over half of those units and most likely only did so because it was a PS3 launch game so customers had few options at the time. IIRC the online servers for the third game were taken offline just a year after launch as well. Resistance simply is not popular so a collection is definitely not on the table.

@Hundred_Hand_Slap if that were the case all PS3 streaming titles would start to be taken offline. The third game is still up as well so a collection is not the reason as they wouldn't just do the first 2 games and not the end of the trilogy

Remasters coming?

Them not fixing the trophies to remove the online multiplayer trophies despite being shut down ten years was a clear sign this would happen.

Yeah I'm really struggling to see any justification for removing first party titles, there is no positive here. Xbox does not remove titles like this and even when we get a remaster like Oblivion, they don't remove the original title.

This is pretty crappy no matter how you look at it, for the amount they charge, removing first party games is unjustifiable I feel.

If it's to make way for a Resistance collection release or something along those lines then no harm no foul. If they are just taking them off and forgetting Resistance exists again then that's a damn shame.

I'm sick of people continuously saying that PS Premium is expensive. It is the same price as three brand new games.

That's it. Three games. For the value of nearly five hundred.

These are the types of games Sony should be remastering, games that are stuck on dead consoles. PS5 plays PS4 games better than the PS4 so why waste resources remastering it's games?

When Android devices are starting to see ps3 emulation i can't figure out why Sony can't do ps3 games natively.

@LifeGirl This is a poor comparison though, as nobody is going to have the time to play 500 games in a year, and none of the games on the service cost full retail price: they're either priced lower than full retail at launch or are added to the service some time after launch when the value is significantly reduced.

On top of that, they all have an undisclosed, limited time on the service and can be pulled at any time, which can essentially make them more of a trial. The only way to guarantee you'll have at least a few months to play is to start a game on the month it's been added. This invisible shrinking window might be OK for smaller games (which, again, have a lower value anyway), but the larger 'meatier' titles which require longer playtimes can often result in the consumer needing to purchase the title anyway, in order to finish it. I guarantee that this is factored into licensing by publishers as helping provide additional sales when these deals are made.

So the truth is you're not getting 500 games for the price of three, but instead limited and temporary access to a selection of games, many of which you may have to end up buying anyway if you want to see them through. Having been a Premium member previously, I did the maths and found I would have saved a fairly substantial portion of money had I bought the games that I'd played (during a year long subscription) outright, not to mention that I would have also been able to keep or re-sell them.

No better time or reason to get a RESISTANCE Remastered Collection! And while we're at it, let's FINALLY get some trophies for RESISTANCE: Fall Of Man.

Unless this leads to a PS5 collection, this is a really poor move by Sony.

I suspect they were removed because no one was playing these pretty mid "Halo killer" PS3 games.

Bring the Ps3 collections natively. Also they need to up the quality for premium. Often 2 a month, disney license games no one wants, games without trophies etc

I haven't bought a game at launch in the last 15 years (at least), but I would buy a good Resistance remastered collection on day 1.

It's probably just a case of not many people playing them, (if any?) Does anyone even use the PS3 streaming regularly?
Original ps3's are still pretty cheap to get hold of (though slowly creeping up) and these games are still bargain basement prices, I'd imagine that what most people who still want to play PS3 games are doing.

In guessing remaster/remake are incoming if that’s true then it’s much needed these games didn’t age well.

Fingers crossed this means PS3 emulation is incoming, the PS Plus conversion studio mentioned they were working on it a year two back.

And this is why physical will always be better... I never support streaming or digital purchases... no physical no buy

Two of the games in my top 10 along with the Uncharted series and Cyberpunk 2077. This is why I've cancelled my PlayStation plus subscription.

I think They Intend to Ether Remake or Remaster the Games one by one.

@kuzronk they can't just "fix the trophies", it's the old ps3 trophy list that is being used for the streaming, there has never been any modification to any trophy list to remove unobtainable trophy as that would be modify the whole trophy list or make a new one.

Well it is streaming after all, you don't own the games and they can remove it whenever they like. What Sony should do is bring native backwards compatibility to the upcoming PS6, PS1,2,3 but that likely would never happen. So sticking with the original hardware and emulation is the way to go.

I never played the Resistance games despite being a huge fan of Insomniac from Spyro and Ratchet & Clank. I had a PS3 during it's time, but I also had a gaming PC, and I didn't really go to the console for first person shooters.

I tried playing Resistance on PS+ and made it maybe 45 mins before bailing. Controls felt terrible in comparison to any post-2010 shooter and the 720p resolution further compressed by streaming plus it being from the really unfortunate "sepia tone makes it gritty" (aka "brown is real") era in gaming...was more than I could tolerate. I saw nothing in those 45 mins that made me want to keep playing. It solidified my assumption that I didn't miss much by skipping them when I had a PS3. So...no great PS+ loss here as far as I'm concerned.

The streaming alone isn't the problem, I revisited and fully 100%'ed Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time through PS+ streaming and they were totally...acceptable.

I wonder if Sony has data indicating that a lot of people played Resistance 1 & 2 for <1 hour and never came back to them.

@DonkeyFantasy except they can still be played on the ps3 digital and disc. also i think this means we could be getting native remasters which is better since the controls , and graphics haven't aged well.

@DennisReynolds What are you talking about? These were fun games especially the first one do with a refresh a campaign refresh for all three with a online multiplayer. And Halo killer isnt Halo a watered down shell of its own at the moment.

I guess we now know what IP People Can Fly are working on for Sony.

Halo is a different universe…. Resistance was a great game! The only resemblance is that they’re both shooters.

They are just not ‘Live Service’ enough for Sony anymore… Can’t believe the crap they release now compared to classics like Resistance. But Sony hasn’t really done FPS games for a loooonnnggg time now. I think the PS4 Killzone launch title was the last one?

One would hope that this means there is something in the works for these games.

It does seem odd that Sony removes its own games from the service - especially legacy PS3 games. 3rd-party games, sure, but not first-party IP.

@AK4tywill Yeah, agree — while I appreciate that, pound for pound, you are getting access to more games with PS+, I'd much rather make my own gaming purchases than pay a yearly subscription to be given temporary access to a curated pool of them.

Sony need to give us access to playable versions of all the digital games we bought on the PS3.
Build an emulator in the PS5 or PS6 that allows us to play the games we bought.

Removing from Premium is ridiculous. I am hoping and feeling like this is for a proper release of them. It's odd they just went up not long ago and could have just stayed up.

@BlackGecko14 the only one that really went up was the 3rd game , the first two were apart of it the whole time going back to ps now which was premium back then. but if there is a remaster/remake ish with improved controls and cleaned up graphics i'd be all for it.

@twitchtvpat Fall of Man and 2 were just added in November. I remember them being in PS Now and I remembered it was odd so many games didn't just transfer over to Plus. I played a bit of each of them a couple months ago and it could really use a bit of cleanup, but after a moment, the controls weren't too bad. I remember the controls feeling so different on PS3 when I played a demo for 3 years ago. But I'm glad I got a good feel of it now and want a remaster of it now.

This the digital future ppl want to support. This is a clear example of companies taking their 1st party games when they want to.

I’m a ps owner from the beginning. Maybe Sony wanted a game as popular as HALO but Resistance was a totally different game.

@Hypoman It was a 1st person shooter in the PS3 era with Sony's backing so yeah it was a "Halo killer". Its why they went hard on this and Killzone as they wanted them to compete with Halo.

@CieloAzure in all fairness this is streaming not digital. so far even digital games are removed you can still down load and play them. its like if a movie gets removed from netflix.

Theory with them removing the resistance games.
They are working on porting them properly.
Companies are finally realizing that we want ports of old "classic" games. At least I hope.
Now we just need infamous 1/2 and Festival of Blood ported!!!!!
