Ghost of Yotei Map Size Freedom

Having just received a release date (out of absolutely nowhere, it should be reiterated), Ghost of Yotei is starting to seep back into the news cycle — and that means fresh info on the PS5 exclusive.

Indeed, some tasty new tidbits have been found in Famitsu's latest interview with directors Nate Fox and Jason Cornell (as translated by VGC).

As we already know, the title revolves around main character Atsu's quest for revenge against a marauding group known as the Yotei Six. However, it sounds like the game won't funnel you through a series of linear story missions in order to bring the big baddies down.

Apparently, you'll be able to hunt down the Yotei Six in any order that you like. It's obviously unclear as to just how much freedom you'll be given in pursuit this overall objective, but Fox claims that player choice is a key part of the game's design.

"In terms of an open world adventure, Ghost of Yotei has the greatest freedom and biggest map of any open world game we have ever made," he says.

Previously, Ghost of Tsushima was the studio's most ambitious title with regards to size. Before that, the inFAMOUS games were probably better described as 'sandbox' instead of fully open world, but they were still fairly big.

The interview also delves into Sucker Punch's approach to staying respectful of Japan as a setting. As you may recall, Ghost of Tsushima got a lot of praise for its depiction of the region and its culture, and unsurprisingly, the team wants to continue down that path with the sequel.

"We have received cooperation from various advisors regarding the depiction of the Ainu people and Ainu culture of the time," Fox explains. "Like with the previous game, we have also thoroughly researched Japanese culture and incorporated it into this project."

Given how good Ghost of Tsushima was (and still is!), we've got high hopes for Ghost of Yotei — and everything we've heard about it so far sounds great. But are you looking forward to this next tale of steel-based vengeance? Start tracking your enemies down in the comments section below.
