Super Smash Bros inspired platforming fighting mash-up MultiVersus is blowing up – and rightly so. The game has absolutely roared towards the top of Steam’s most-played list following the launch of its open beta earlier this week, peaking at 144,456 players earlier today. By way of comparison, juggernaut fighting game Street Fighter 5 has an all-time peak of 14,783 on Valve’s PC platform.
Now it’s important to remember that MultiVersus is free-to-play, but at the time of writing it’s attracting more players than established rivals like Rocket League and Fall Guys. In fact, even using PSNProfiles’ small sample size, the Warner Bros title is behind only social media phenomenon Stray on the site’s most played list, based on Trophy data.
Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t publish player stats, so it’s difficult to get a firm read on how MultiVersus is performing against free-to-play titans like Fortnite and Apex Legends on PSN specifically, but it’s fair to say this could be the next big thing.
