Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man PS5 PlayStation 5 1

Marvel’s Avengers’ controversial PlayStation 5 and PS4 exclusive character, Spider-Man, will arrive this year. Crystal Dynamics confirmed the web-slinger as part of its all-new roadmap, which puts an emphasis on “replayable” content rather than cinematic expansions, like the recent War for Wakanda add-on.

“Our goal is to deliver more compelling Avengers Initiative content that is replayable,” a blog post explains. “We know our dedicated fans want challenges worthy of the Avengers, and to get that thrill the first time and as strongly the next time they replay it or try it with a different hero in their roster.”

In order to achieve this, the developer will be reworking a number of the title’s foundation mechanics, including the way Gear operates. “The new system will allow players to upgrade Epic, Legendary, and Exotic gear from power level 100 all the way to the new power level cap,” the website states. There’ll also be changes to the way Resources are used and even to how Cosmetics can be unlocked.

This will all be brought together by the title’s first Raid: “This will be the most challenging content yet, meant to not only test the mastery of each Hero but also the well-built four-player Strike Teams out there. Collaboration and observation are crucial to beating this one.”

According to Crystal Dynamics, there’s a lot more to share, and we’ll get a proper look at Spider-Man closer to launch, with some glimpses “here and there along the way”. The character won’t be part of this week’s PlayStation Showcase, however, as some had predicted. “We can't wait to show you more in the coming months,” the studio teases.
