Is it the best-looking game ever made? It’s sure as hell up there! A trio of new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart screenshots have been released to coincide with the latest gameplay footage, and they’re going to leave you slack-jawed, we’re sure. To be honest, we’re running out of superlatives to describe this game, but if you’ve been following the PlayStation 5 exclusive over the past few days then you’ll know why.
Look at the detail on Ratchet’s fur, and the reflections on his armour! Marvel at the sheer scale of that giant enemy Rivet is facing! And wipe your brow over all the particles and effects in the third screenshot! Insomniac Games has surely set a new bar here: this is lightyears ahead of the relatively recent Ratchet & Clank movie, and this is running in realtime on a PlayStation 5.

Absolutely ridiculous.
tell me how this game does not score a 10 out of 10? having just watched the state of play late this game looks like it has it all! can't wait
IGN will give this an 8
@rumple1980 I think the only way it doesn't is if it launches in a Cyberpunk-esque state. Though something tells me we wont have to worry about that.
My jaw is not on the floor.im break dancing and doing the g.o.a.t 👑 king of pop Michael Jackson moonwalk.this game graphics is on another level.word up son
This game looks lovely for sure but tbh Ratchet and Clank on PS4 still looks really nice too. As nice as this looks and it is make no mistake about it I don't consider it a particularly big leap over the previous generation which to me personally isn't a bad thing at all.
@RubyCarbuncle Went back Ratchet PS4 recently and it still has amazing art and looks really sharp, but the sheer density of the environments put this several tiers above IMO. (All Ratchet games are gorgeous, though, even the PS3 remasters of the originals!)
@munstre Well everyone likes different things I guess.
You can see the reflection of the glove in his eye in the first screenshot
@get2sammyb Can't disagree there. I wish the game was coming out now though I'm DYING to play it lol
Can't wait for NX Gamer's analysis of these real time graphics!
It's a beatiful game. I said it was the first new gen showcase when i saw it.
Too bad it's not a game series i seem to enjoy playing. Looks great for sure though.
How can you not be hyped for this? I cannot wait to play this in my media room!!
Rewatched the trailer for the movie from 6 years ago...I don't if it's me but Rift Apart looks better.
Still not sure I can justify forking out $90 CAD for this, despite knowing it’ll be a good game. Frankly same for returnal.
I think Ratchet is a better series than that other popular platformer on that other console. That’s my opinion.
@Mega-Gazz I'll see your $90CAD & raise you $125AU Oz dollaryroos!😱 New gen games regional pricings have been questionable at best.
As far as the game itself goes, every bit of the polish you'd expect out of Insomniac & a first party game...so is this still a ps4 game running on slightly faster loading like the xbot trolls have been claiming the whole time!😛😁
@Mega-Gazz Same. I really want Returnal (and RE8) but with tax, I'm looking at $101.70 each. Good lord... 😱
Insomniac Games be flexing with these screenshots, even during the State of Play when they mentioned how beautiful there game was, you know they were pretty much leaning back, arms crossed behind their heads with the smuggest grins like "Yeah we know, we know you like what you see".
Honestly if they make more Ratchet & Clank games after Rift Apart (They will I guarantee it), I honestly do not how they intend to top this, Rift Apart is just THAT gorgeous.
It looks wonderful. Honestly this game seems to be the epitome of a must have.
@munstre
I totally agree. It's one thing to have different tastes and like different things but this game looks incredible as a fact. Denial is strange indeed.
Looks incredible, we are genuinely at the stage of being able to play pixar movie levels of animation and visuals in a game.
@rumple1980 totally agree mate, but idiots like Edge magazine will give it 5/10 or something stupid.
@2cents
IGN is so last gen.
Jeff Grubb meme is where its at.
'Boring... 5/10'
I think I've found that one good reason to buy a PS5.
@Mega-Gazz Still better than 79.99€ ! ^^
@JapaneseSonic pah, minor details.
@Robocod @Mega-Gazz I haven't even checked yet to see how much physical PS5 disc prices are in Barbados. Considering that on average disc editions of new PS4 games are BBD $170.00 (about USD $85.00), I shudder to think how much the PS5 discs are. Most of this extra cost is made up of the horrendous taxes and duties applied to these products on importation into Barbados, and also retailer markup.
As much as I'm a staunch supporter of physical media, it's all a bit too much for me. Most of my game purchases this past generation have been digital, and the majority of my disc games have been used purchases gifted to me by family. The only games I bought on disc new were Ratchet and Clank 2016 (launch period, but that was sold at a 'budget price of BBD $120.00 (USD $60.00) and GT Sport for my birthday 2 years ago at a steal-worthy BBD $100.00 (USD $50.00)).
I really would like to get a PS5 with a disc drive so I can still play my PS4 discs with some upgrades, but I'm strongly considering just getting a Digital Edition PS5 and just hanging onto the PS4. I won't be buying either PS5 from a local retailer anytime soon though... the cheapest I've seen the disc PS5 currently is BBD $2,450.00 (USD $1,225.00). Those are scalper prices elsewhere in the world.
Jesus,and this is why people buy playstations, their developers are far beyond any 3rd party devs ,I dont know how Sony runs their in house studios but they must look after their staff ,nobody puts in this much dedication if they don't like where they are working.
@Mega-Gazz This is why I think the era of rental stores ended too soon. Maybe it was done for movies, but video game rentals still seem to make sense, especially since demos aren't available like they used to be.
These screenshots will be the last I view of the game before it's out. Definitely won't be watching any trailers. The announcement trailer was enough to sell me on the game. Great to see this series back on track and Sony making it a big part of the PS brand again.
It’s Starfox Adventures all over again! Look at that fur!
@vyseofhr "Starfox Adventures"
You joke, but for like 5 years, even after HD consoles came out, SA was still the best looking game I had played, Krystal's fur is incredible. I haven't seen it in action in a coupe of years since the last time my son played it but it still holds up pretty well. Not by modern standards but compared to anything from the time. Too bad they didn't keep it "Dinosaur Planet", it just received too much hate being a Starfox game, which it clearly wasn't. Fortunately for me I had never played a Starfox game before so it instantly became 1 of my favorites. Probably still top 5 for me, maybe top 10. Sucks about Rare that we'll never get a remaster or port, hardly anyone gets to play it. 😝
@get2sammyb Yesterday blew me away. Even streaming on YT, which never seems to work out great for me, it still looked amazing. I haven't watched the 4k version yet, but I will. Have to say though, not a fan of Ratchet's fur. It's almost too realistic, it's distracting sticking out all over the place like that. Some cats are smooth, some are prickly, I prefer smooth.
Old Ratchet on the left, new Ratchet on the right.
Rivet's Carmelita Fox tail is cool though. I never even realized Ratchet had a tail, it's never seemed to matter before.
This series has always impressed, no matter the hardware it's on, and they are certainly following through. This is gobsmackingly beautiful.
I can't wait to see what else Insomniac has in store for us over the course of this generation.
Yes that 15 min demo last night was stunning. This is definitely the first show case title for ps5 as well as Returnal. But for me personally looks even better than Returnal. Ratchet day one without a doubt.
This alone should have postponed Horizon: Forbidden West till 2022, they might just snatch the GOTY awards away from them. 😂
@R1spam What a great era it is to live in...we also have Kena: Bridge of Spirits to look forward to 3D animated-gaming wise.
One of those games that's a day one purchase regardless of review scores. Looks like an absolute treat
Wasn't that impressed with it to be honest. Too cartoony for me.
@rumple1980 Because the gameplay may be generic, a game score is more then pretty graphics you know.
The trailer for this clearly states that not all of the footage is gameplay. I don't know why everyone is losing their minds over good looking CGI.
