Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers -- the upcoming action role-playing game from Koei Tecmo and Omega Force -- isn't just some Dynasty Warriors-style spin-off. As evidenced by the title's most recent livestream blowout, Scramble is actually an in-depth sequel to Persona 5. Be sure to catch the latest gameplay trailer, which we've embedded above.
It takes place six months after the events of Persona 5, with the story focusing on the development and growth of the Phantom Thieves as characters. For example, Makoto and Haru have both moved on to university. The plot itself revolves around the gang going on a road trip across Japan, but of course, things don't go quite as planned (thanks Persona Central for the translated information).
Koei Tecmo has also revealed that the game is around 90 per cent complete, meaning that it's in the "refinement" phase of development. Scramble already has a release date in Japan -- it's due out on the 20th February, 2020 -- but it's nice to know that it's basically finished.
As for a Western date, we probably won't be getting one until Persona 5 Royal is locked down. Still, it's looking like 2020 is going to be a big year for fans of the Phantom Thieves.

I am getting more interested the more I hear about this. I wasn't that excited when they first announced this, writing it off as another warriors, but it certainly looks like something more now based on the trailers.
Unexpected, what a curious name for the game, sounds like a mobile phone game spin off.
Not surprising that it’s a sequel given that P4 has two fighting games as sequels. Definitely interested.
I've actually never played a musou for more than a few minutes (tried out a friend's copy of Hyrule Warriors), so this'll be my first one.
Not a fan of these types of games. But Loved P5, so if it cotinues the Story I'll have to give it a try.
Regardless if I like it or not. Great to see Yakuza, Persona and Sakura all coming out with new styles of play. Shake it up a bit.
Too bad Switch (only) players can not play the OG or P5R at this moment.
Look forward to this one tho. I hope on Ps4 Pro support!
This game is sounding better and better. I’m looking forward to it quite a bit.
A 'sequel' to P5?
Well I guess all the moaning and whining and death threats from Switch owners paid off, they're getting P5... Sort of.
It won't stop the port beggers on Steam though.
I mean, I get that people on other platforms want to play it, but all the 'entitlement' and 'death threats' were a bit much and made me feel like as a result they don't deserve it. I'd still keep it away from them out of spite because the leading months to the announcement of Scramble and the months after their behaviour was disgusting.
guess i'll have to go and play P5 again to freshen up on the story
I have a lot of Persona to play next year. That thought makes me happy.
Really looking forward to this game after I saw the latest trailers for it. Never really played a musou-style game but this looks amazing. Probably gonna get it on PS4 still but I can't wait for it to come out.
Didn't expect a sequel so soon but all for it!
