Not everyone gets along with first-person shooters, and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red seems to be aware of this. The studio knows that if you primarily play third-person action adventures or role-playing games, then you might have trouble getting to grips with something like Cyberpunk 2077, and because of that, it's included a number of difficulty settings.
Speaking to Wccftech, CD Projekt Red's Alvin Liu explains the developer's thinking on the subject: "If you want to play more casually for the story and maybe you’re not experienced with shooters, which was a real big concern for us [...] we want to tell a story and maybe you’re a big fan of The Witcher and you’re not comfortable playing a shooter, we have settings available for that."
Previously, the studio confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will indeed have difficulty options similar to The Witcher 3, ranging from easy all the way to very hard. In other words, if you're just looking to enjoy the stories of Night City without worrying too much about combat, then the game should have you covered.
Do you appreciate difficulty settings like this in story-heavy titles? Ask questions first, shoot later in the comments section below.

good, all games should have difficulty settings
How about a Third-Person setting for those not comfortable with First-Person. No? Well then, CDPR, you are doing little more than trying to make yourself look like saintly game devs listening to fans. Nothing more than a fart in the wind.
I either didn't know or forgot this game was first person.
Lost all interest now, so thinking this is new info for me.
I much prefer to slice people up nice and close than punch holes from a distance.
@Dubya75 The game is first-person because it's designed to be first-person. Just like how a third-person game is designed to be third-person. Just like any game is designed to be how it is because that's how it is.
I get that a first-person view is a sticking point for some people but we can't expect developers to completely abandon their vision for the sake of personal preference.
People saying they'll no longer play this because it's not got third person, get a grip of yourselves, you remind me of Morrisey fans who threatened to burn all his albums because he said some hurty words.
Yeah if there was one thing Half-Life 2 received criticism for it was its lack of third person mode.
I'm happy with either. As long as the game's good I'll take the challenge. Hardest setting day 1.
I don't get the issue with this being first person. Surely if you don't like FPS games don't buy this and pick up something Better suited to your preferences. There's plenty more games in the sea
@ShogunRok true
although i have to admit a 3rd person view mode so we could see our character in all their glory would be pretty nice but if they can't then so be it
First time on normal, 10th time on ultra cyber hard mode for the trophy.
They could release the same game on Playstation 5 and add 3rd person view.........i'm looking at you Rockstar.
CD Projekt are like Boris Johnson they could release a crud game imma gonna still buy it just like if Boris makes gaffs we still gonna have him as the next Prime Minister.
@Dubya75 if you don't like first person games, simply don't play it, as I imagine you do with any other first person game.
I'm waiting for the day games introduce settings for people offended by trigger words, genders, police, and opinions.
Come on... Let's just have all the options 😉
You can design your character to an extent, but I wonder why they bother implementing that in a first-person game at all. Male or female voice, sure... the rest seems a waste of development resources.
@East76landS I won't play it because its first person. That's because I don't like first person games. I don't play turn based games either because I don't like them. That doesnt make me an entitled whinger, just someone that plays games he likes.
First person is okay for shooters or semi-openworlds like Dishonored with about 20hrs of campaign length. But when it's RPG with 100s of hours, you better have both views or 3rd. Like @Paranoimia said, it's completely pointless then if you can customize your character from outfits to hair and you can't view them except probably cutscenes. This isn't about difficulty settings.
They ought to cave to all demands, I'm demanding an isometric pov as well as a 2D sidescroller mode.
Failure to comply will result in mutterings under my breath and then buying the game anyway.
@TheArt As someone who played 99.9% of my 130H Skyrim play through in first person I don’t see the issue . Yes Skyrim has the option, but honestly ES would be okay without with an adjustment for looking around corners in Stealth.
I don’t see the issue honestly. If anything 3rd person ES sucks because it’s obviously not designed for it at the core.
I think the game will be fine without a 3rd person mode and it could be a terrible idea for it to have one. The tight corridors and stuff could make it very I comfortable. Also, had anyone thought the animations required for this? It’s not a malad feature and would require a tremendous amount of work. Or it wouldn’t be very good with lesser animations and you all would mark down the game for that.
From the title I thought you could switch from first person to third person but that's not at all what they say unfortunately. They just mention 'shooters' being the issue, not the perspective
@Jaz007 Well ok I'll admit I play Skyrim and Fallout 4 60% of the time in 1st, the rest of the 40% I switch to 3rd to appreciate my hardwork of finding rare armour or outfits, hairstyles etc. So yes I'm perfectly fine with 1st but 3rd it's like an absolute necessary option with these games. With RDR2 and GTAV I spend like 90% in 3rd(because Rockstar's 3rd is better than Bethesda's) just to appreciate the clothes purchased with money gained. That's like one of the vital points of open worlds - character customisation.
@East76landS
I mean, wheres the 'threat'?
People saying facts is a threat?
Thoughts crime or something?
Thank goodness for that, doubt I'd have the time to play a CDPR game otherwise!
@ShogunRok
'Just like how a third-person game is designed to be third-person. Just like any game is designed to be how it is because that's how it is.'
Gta5, Fallout, No man's sky...
Just a few examples to show gamers aren't completely daft though
It's not like they talk about something completely weird or impossible
so much fluff, non-news on this game — practically every day of the week from pushsquare. i'm starting to get fatigued on cyberpunk already. let it be until there is actual news worth reporting.
Hard difficulty, no killing allowed, bring it on.
I can't play this because for some reason I get motion sickness from 1st person games. 🤨🤨😟😟
I’m not too stuffed by the first person if that’s the vision of the developers ....
But I am bothered by the notion in that picture that in 60 years in the future we have androids with retractable blades for arms, flying cars, and holographic cybernetic imagery but we’re still eating food with chopsticks technology from 5000 years ago. 😅 Shouldn’t we have like, I don’t know, pellets we inject directly into our arms for sustenance or something? Retractable forks from our fingertips?
@ShogunRok That's one opinion. However, I think that game of this scale / environment can truly be appreciated from a third person perspective. First person limits your viewing ability and camera movement is very fast (although you can adjust it but it won't be practical during game play) which lessens the experience of beautiful and rich environment of the game. Third person view lets you fully enjoy and appreciate your surroundings.
Wow so there have been 2076 of these games? Thats a long running series!
@tomassi Turn based games aren't my thing either, I quite enjoyed Wastelands 2 though, the XCOM games were fun too. Fallout 3/4 and New Vegas had both options for 3rd and 1st person, but honestly whenever I've played or seen people playing those games it's almost exclusively in 1st person mode.
@zohaibshehzad Have you played Cyberpunk 2077?
NGL I was bummed when they announced it to be first person. I was expecting a cyber punk witcher type game. For me personally the first person camera just seems restricting and it just makes it seem like another first person shooter among so many others. With third person I can enjoy things like my characters appearance, attacks and other animations, etc. I can enjoy the view of the world I'm in like the buildings, and streets and all that. But it is what it is. Hopefully itll be a great game
@ShogunRok I have played enough first person games to give my opinion. Lots of beautifully crafted game environments just lose their significance in FP mode. Who says u can't make third person close corner games. Just look at RE2 remake.
@zohaibshehzad No one says you can't, it's just that CDPR — or any developer — wouldn't make their game first-person if they didn't think it would work best in first-person. Based on the gameplay they've shown of of Cyberpunk 2077 it's clearly a very dense, intricate game full of tight spaces. Clearly the studio thinks first-person works best.
All I'm saying is that we should at least wait until we all play the game before saying "this would be better in third-person".
Although I liked the narrative and general world-building of the Witcher 3, I felt that the gameplay element was sorely lacking. Controls were extremely sluggish and combat felt very off, or floaty. Hopefully the shift to first person can make up for that in Cyberpunk.
As many have mentioned, it would be preferable a 3d person mode. You can enjoy more the environments, the player, the rpg elements. In general, it's more suitable to an open world rpg and that's why most players want this game, not for its shooting part.
I'll buy it day one of course but I'll be waiting for some patch some time eventually..
They should just say, due to technical limitations. CP was originally going to be in 3p, or both but then this changed. In a game with a character creation, that actually deserves to be called such, MOST people (especially this being an RPG) want to see their creation, show off their creation when they stream, and see their creation react to other characters, and the environment. We were told we'd see them in CS, but now this has been changed, so CS are now mostly 1p, so you really I guess only see your character, when you are putting new clothing on, and doing gear/stat stuff.. Yay?
So it isnt because of "vision", or "difficulty", and people need to stop defending that. It is due to technical limitations, which is why I laughed, and rolled my eyes, when they gave the BS excuse about "immersion", and now "difficulty". Just seeing out of my characters eyes, and rarely seeing my character (creation) in anything, actually isnt very immersive to me.. It also isn't about difficulty. I really think, this should have just been 100% done on next gen tech (PS5 XB humidifier lol.. I planned on getting it for PC)
It is easier, and cheaper to do first person, and given the fact that the game has had performance issues on XB/PS4.. It isnt a surprise they went the easy route, because it makes absolutely no sense why they wouldnt add both views, like Skyrim, and Fallout have, its just that the game has sooooooo much going on, the third person, is difficult, and probably causes performance issues, on top of the issues it has on consoles, and it saves a lot of time and money.
@kohiba99. Yep I can see it maybe being added, when it comes out for next gen consoles, and of course you know someone will mod it in on PC.. But yeah, it should have been done day one.
Personally disappointed to see that there's no 3rd person mode, I find first person games make me motion sick, so it's not just a matter of preference for me.
So not only will I not be able to enjoy playing it, I'll not be able to watch my husband playing it because it'll still make me feel sick.
It's a shame, because it looks awesome.
