Well, this came out of absolutely nowhere. Groundhog Day, the classic 90s movie starring Bill Murray, is getting a pseudo-sequel as a PlayStation VR game. Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son has just been announced, and it's a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Tequila Works that no one could've predicted.

The game has you playing as Phil Connors Jr, the son of Murray's character in the original film. As you might've guessed, he's going through a similar situation to his dad -- he's living the same day, over and over again, and you'll have to lift the curse by exploring the world inside a virtual reality time loop. "He's trapped back home in Punxsutawney, the small town he thought he'd escaped, where he can't even get a decent cappuccino - and he's going to have to repeat the day over and over until he learns the true value of friends and family," reads the official blurb.

It's actually a concept that works well within the structure of a game, exploring the same timeline repeatedly while solving puzzles and changing your actions to see what happens. Funnily enough, Tequila Works published The Sexy Brutale, a game with a similar framework for its time loop murder mystery. There's no word on when this game is coming out, but we expect it's not too far away.
