Launching brand new franchises is always a risky business, but Horizon: Zero Dawn has been an enormous success for Sony. After selling over 2.6 million units within its first two weeks on store shelves, the Guerrilla Games developed action role-playing release has now hit 3.4 million units as of 30th April.
This statistic is particularly impressive when you consider that the title’s yet to enjoy a price drop – though it’s rumoured to be part of Sony’s global Days of Play promotion next week – and is yet to be widely bundled. It means that the title could easily eclipse five million units when all’s said and done, which is massive for an unproven property on a single platform.

It's always nice to see new successfull IP for ps4. Next, days gone and spiderman
I'm one of those waiting patiently for a price drop to around £28 , got plenty of other games to be getting on with so no rush .
For my money, it's the PS4's best exclusive.
I'd go as far as to say those numbers are super impressive considering it was up against breath of the wild, launching on two platforms nonetheless. We all know about 25% of the copies sold of breath of the wild haven't been opened yet too, because they're either collector's editions or people waiting to get a switch
No surprises there the game is tied with Botw as one of the best open world games available.
I think its the best new IP this generation, one of Sony's best exclusives and a contender for game of the year! Its a shame that 95% of the Playstation gamers have yet to buy it!!
@BAMozzy Agree, its addicting. I most of the time do not care about quest. Most of the time i'm killing of machines for parts and xp. I love fights against those crocs
Echoing all thoughts. I'd like higher numbers just because I love the game but then this is a new IP and launched at a really really busy time.
This should defo be bundled with the Pro. I expect any DLC will sell well if it is of sufficient quality. The best exclusive I've played on the PS4 (besides TLOU Remaster).
It's a great game. Besides the interesting story, Aloy being a good protagonist and the stunning graphics, it's just feels so good to actually play.
W/ the way game prices drop these days upon release my son and I said we'd each chip in $15 when it hit $30. My 2 sons chipped in for Zelda BotW at release b/c that will still be $60 in 3 years. And neither have finished it yet so we're in no rush.
I think it's a good number though, Sony should be happy. It will certainly sell more during Black Friday sales to anybody still waiting.
@Splat
It's up there for sure. I'd put it just behind Yakuza Zero, though that one is cross-gen.
Playing as we speak! Took a little while to get decent, hunting grounds a good help to learn about all the weapons. Is there a reason that quest never goes away after finishing all 3 hunts w/ the best score?
One of my more fun recent platinums. Absolutely loved everything about this game and cannot wait to see what is next with Aloy. Hopefully we get a dlc to tide us over why we wait for the sequel.
Congrats to Guerilla + Sony! Can't wait for E3 and see what else Sony developers + partners have up its sleeves. Hmmm... no man's sky with 40hour epic campaign is a nice dream for future ;D
It deserves to sell 100 million. Maybe I should buy a few more copies.
@Gamer83 big up the Yakuza massive.
I still haven't played Horizon, but with so many games some titles get missed. Lookin to grab it around Xmas.
Always nice to see we have proof, that new IPs with female protagonists have the potential to sell well as long as the game and marketing are good.
My copy sits wrapped, I am waiting to finish Sly 4 before getting to it.
Very happy to hear it has done well, I do not think they will discount it yet. Maybe in that E3 promo.
@ThroughTheIris56
It's nice to have proof new IPs can sell, period. Don't care about the gender of the lead character, I just want more original stories.
I really am truly surprised there isnt a Pro Bundle with this or now WipEout Omega
Here's hoping that Horizon and ARK will convince other devs to make more dino games.
Capcom, you remember one IP of yours with horror and dinos, right?
